Controller "grips" that don't grip result in a product that only serves as a decoration.
I'm a competitively active player that this kind of product is made for; I've been buying various performance grip accessories for years, and invested hundreds of dollars in my own solutions such as athletic/bat tape to increase comfort and performance on my game controllers and computer input devices. I was looking for PS5 grip solutions in particular due to the Dualsense's inherently slippery surface. Its the most annoying thing about the controller, worsened by the platform's need to vibrate for every little thing that happens. Its abnormal curvature and lack of convenient seams make it difficult to use my usual bat tape customization, thus putting me in the market for a tailor-made solution. The Extremerate/Playvital grips seemed promising, stating an "anti-slip" surface and featuring vibrant colors and a very specific cut and shape for the Dualsense. That shape along with the instructions being visually vague made it difficult to get started applying the grips, but eventually I figured it out - going with what "fit best" as I applied it to the controller was the best I could do without a good picture reference. Thankfully the material is repositionable and resilient enough to be reapplied should an angle be off, and the thicker construction allows for a bit of play so it doesn't have to be super exact. Unfortunately, these are the most slippery "grips" I've ever felt, and it was trading one slippery surface for another. There is no rubbery texture or tack; its plasticky and has a snake skin pattern/texture on it, but it doesn't stop the controller from slipping out of hands or off of surfaces. It makes the feel of the controller "fatter", and it looks kind of cool with the snake art aesthetic to go along with its texture - but that's about it, and it did not improve my performance or comfort with the controller. I did think the shape of the grips was well done in the way they wrapped around the controller - so I feel it should get a couple of stars at least since I may be able to apply that pattern to an actual rubbery grip or bat tape - but as it stands, tracing the shape is the only thing I'll be able to use them for. In the end I found a silicone case/skin that performed really well and I use that as my grip of choice. However, if you are not looking for something grippy and like the look of these, the cosmetic value in this product may still be satisfactory to you. Read more
