This is my first F1 game, so no comparisons to previous games here. Overall, there's a lot to be happy about in F1 22 for players like me who are only moderately interested in online play and who just want a reasonably-featured sim experience. The driving and career aspects of the game are its strongest suits in my opinion, with plenty of flexibility to customize time trials, single races, and even full seasons. The driving physics are notoriously tough; I've only driven with assists off, and discipline on both throttle and brake is an absolute must. It must be said that the visuals are sub-par for a game with a fairly limited scope. In particular, lighting looks lifeless and flat on PS5, and character models look extremely dated. The Hungaroring map contains a huge area off-track with textures badly z-fighting, which is very noticeable on some of the pre-race overhead shots. Really speaks to a game that is rushed and not given enough time to receive the proper love and attention to detail. Let's face it, the F1 Life mode and everything associated with it is an absolute joke. Luckily, it can be completely ignored with zero impact to the good parts of the game experience. It's amazing that EA has been so financially successful while producing virtually no innovations of any value over the past 25 years. At the end of the day, F1 22 is a great way to drop into a track and learn its rhythms before a race weekend. Watching a race can be a much more immersive and rewarding experience when you immediately recognize each corner and see how masterfully the real-life drivers negotiate them. I'm glad to have the game, but before I buy any future editions I'd like to see more focus on training & challenges, career building, historical tracks and races, car modification, improving AI - Things that actually relate to the driving experience, rather than superficial bolted on lifestyle systems and other junk.
