Faber-Castell Essentio Ballpoint Pen - Carbon

Back in the mid 1990's, I used many PaperMate ballpoint pens which featured a marbled lacquered body and ribbed grip. At the time, they were available in green, blue and red and featured a large capacity PaperMate LubriGlide refill. These ballpoint pens were the staple for me through the years, offering a comfortable grip and very smooth writing qualities. I have continued to use them up to the present time. Enter the Faber-Castell Basic Black Carbon Ballpoint Pen #148888. To my pleasant surprise, I had found a newer version of my old favorite, with a very smooth and patterned black body and exceptional rubberized grip that is not soft or gummy. In addition, the pen has a very smooth clicking mechanism and shiny black end. (always something I was looking for in a moderately priced pen) This pen has substantial enough weight to have a solid feel. But the best part was its ink delivery system, featuring a document-proof standard large capacity refill that glides onto the paper with exceptional smoothness. Refills are also available in both black and blue, with a choice of medium or bold point. This is an excllent pen at an affordable price that will provide many hours of writing pleasure. After getting another Faber Castell pen and feeling it was not right (too heavy), I got this one and I love it! It isn't nearly as heavy and it writes soooo smoothly. Can't say enough good things about this pen and i consider myself a 'pen-a-holic'. Read more

The pen itself is well weighted and well designed, but I can’t stop the ink from skipping! It’s no doubt that it’s smooth though. Would’ve been a 5 star if it wasn’t for the skipping problem. Read more

I bought this pen primarily for the grip, which is secure without being squoogy. My fingers sweat a bit in the summer, and this grip does not slip. The carbon fiber barrel adds to the cool factor. The grip diameter fits my fingers and the weight feels right. The refill deposits the ink smoothly without requiring very much pressure. An excellent pen for the price. Read more

Nice looking, nicely-weighted ballpoint pen. Writes well. While the clicker mechanism works well, my only disappointment is it's a little loose when the ballpoint tip is extended - I had hoped for a slightly more solid feel at this price point - but this is minor and I would gladly purchase another one.
