This game plays so good. Fatal Fury is back, and is a blast to play. Some interesting characters (a real world dj, and footballer being surprise standouts) and great mechanics make this very enjoyable. This version actually comes with a code for the first wave of dlc characters yet to be released (four of them, two which are from Street Fighter) which is pretty uncharacteristic these days as the roster is not too shabby to begin with. I want to preface this by saying Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves (aka Garou: Mark of the Wolves) is in my top 3 2D fighters of all time. Along with Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike and MvC2, they’re all pretty unshakeable. And while we’ve gotten many MvC and Street Fighter games since (none which came close to those two I mention IMO), I feel that Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a welcome return to the Fatal Fury series (which hasn’t been seen since that 1999 entry I mentioned). This game has exactly the kind of throwback fighting game play style I’ve craved lately. I was equally impressed with SNK’s Samurai Shodown game from 2019. I hope they continue to resurrect old series since I am not the biggest King of Fighters fan. Those games are fun but I find their character rosters a tad overwhelming and not in a way where I want to play as everyone because most of those characters I don’t know. But back to the review. City of the Wolves brings a few welcome additions to its fighting mechanics with the REV meter and associated moves, as well as dodge attacks which remind me of parries in SF 3. These all keep the fights feeling fresh without becoming an overwhelming gimmick. I can’t recommend this enough to serious fighting game fans, and for those less serious there is a basic control option but I haven’t even touched that yet. So far I’m just working my way through arcade mode and I’m happy to say this is delivering exactly the old school fighting game experience I wanted. Can’t wait for whatever SNK does next. Read more

Great game. I loved Fatal Fury 3 and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2. This is a good addition to the series. Read more
