Got this razor as a replacement for my old razor which I lost in a hotel. It was a Lexington razor with Gillette blades from the art of shaving - fortunately received as a gift but commanding a $125 premium... Well this razor beats it in all aspects. It is all metal and has a very good heft, which feels great in the hand and does not slip thanks to the hashed pattern on the metal handle. It cleans well with a rinse, and holds my favorite Gillette blades perfectly. I am 5"10 with medium hands; the grip feels secure and I've never cut myself in 2 months of ownership. Best of all is the construction: if you shave in the shower your razor will likely fall to the ground a few times; my old art of shaving razor actually broke with the blade piece that grabs the smooth handle that came off after the shock of falling down - while the art of shaving store replaced the handle for free with their good customer service, this one is very sturdy and will survive a few falls with no problem. I was skeptical after I ordered this handle, both considering the low price and several iffy reviews. However, I received this, and was quite pleased to find that it was a good value for the price. It came with a blade, and provides a comparable shave to my previous AOS handle. The handle is comfortable to hold and easy to use, and is quite stylish for the low price. Other than the thin string which allows the pivoting head to do its thing (which seems the first thing that could go), I personally love everything else about this handle! did not find it too light, as some reviews suggested but, also, definitely is a tad lighter than my AOS. Honestly though, for what I paid for that gorgeous AOS handle, pieces should not have been breaking off after only about a year or so of daily use. That said, I am happy with this purchase, and have considering purchasing another for travel. Time will tell if I see any of the other problems experienced but, so far, I feel like I got a pretty decent, stylish handle for a fraction of what I would have paid, to replace it with an AOS one. I’ve been looking for a quality razor handle for quite some time that incorporates Gillette’s Flex-Ball feature. It seems that there are few options available, and those that are (such as The Art Of Shaving) are ridiculously expensive. I took a chance an bought this one on Amazon and I’m happy to report I’m very pleased with my purchase. Why I like it: • The handle is longer than the Gillette handle. For me, this makes shaving much more easy and effective, especially when shaving around the sides of your jaw line. • The handle is a little thicker than Gillette’s so if feels more comfortable in the hand. • The handle is heavier than Gillette’s which translates to less pressure required when gliding the razor on your skin. • The chrome finish is elegant, and the quality is very good. • The razor connection to the handle works exactly like Gillette’s…easy to snap on and off at the push of a button. This handle is expensive. But I was willing to pay to have a "solid" metal handle. The Gillette handle sucks. Sadly, it has only been 7 months and this handle is broken. The screw heads holding the handle to razor attachment both broke and there is no way to repair (and even if there were a way to repair, I don't do this kind of work for a 7 month old product that broke in normal use). Looks wise, the handle is fairly nice, however once you pick it up you quickly realize it is not "heavy duty" as described, and lacked the weight that I would expect of a razor handle like this (especially for one costing about 6 times as much as the regular Gillette handle). The handle honestly feels very cheaply made. Overall I would not recommend this item. Read more
I am revising my review previously posted. The seller contacted me based on my comments. The blade handle that I reviewed was a newer model which I returned. After contacting me they offered to ship me one of the original design at no charge and I am much happier with this one. The handle is longer and easier to hold and use. The mechanism to attach the blade is not extended like the newer model. This is what I was expecting when I ordered. Kudos to GBS for standing behind their product and caring about their customers. They went the extra mile. Precious review follows. Certainly not a heavy weight handle as advertised. The handle is not really longer but with the mechanism to attach, the overall appearance is that the razor is long but the handle is the same length as those that come with the Gillette blades.
