The buckle has a button on one side that you need to press when you slide the belt into it, and then release the button and it should grip the belt. Then press the button again to pull the belt loose. The button is kind of hidden from view, so make sure you know which side it's on before you put the belt on. I have a nasty medical condition, so wearing a traditional belt (with notches every 1/2") is PAINFUL for me because I have to tighten it too much if I want it to prevent my pants from sliding down past my flat butt... and doing so causes welts and sores to form along my waist line. So I stopped wearing belts and switched to suspenders for the last few years... but I hate suspenders because the clips that attach them to my pants are built so cheaply that they ALWAYS break after 3 months of use. And they make me look like a dork. These are GREAT because the ratchet feature gives you about 1/8 inch between each notch. So I can tighten my belt with 4 times more precision than with a traditional style belt. I can get it to a spot where it will hold up my pants without causing a nasty skin reaction from the pinching. And they make these in enough different colors and styles that you'll definitely find one to wear for every occasion. Whether you work at a desk all day, or you're swinging a shovel and rake all day, the belt won't release itself - it stays put until you push the button on the buckle. Quality of the materials is not the best... if you want to pay for "extreme quality" go to a real tailor. But for the price, it's really nice. Good enough to do the job, at least longer than the 3 months I was getting out of a pair of suspenders. Read more

Ok first things first… figure out how to unbuckle the belt if this is your first ratchet belt! Trust me on that ! I never read instructions! Love this belt! The best part ?
