I bought my first juicer years ago, I used it a little bit and then just shelved it. It became a mess cleaning that thing up all the time. It would shred the fruit spin it around and use centrifugal force to get the juice out. I was left with a messy pulp and sometimes the juice would just be frothy from the skins and rinds. This is a good juicer. Easy to use. Basically dump fruits and veggies (depending on size, rinds, etc. you ,ay still need to do some minimal prep and slicing) and the machine will feed the produce against the metal grinder. This is the masticating part. The machine will separate the pulp from the juice. It works well. But it is not a cold press juicer. True cold press juicer will have hydraulics that will actually press down on the fruits/veggies to reduce any nutrients due to heat in the the juice extraction process. These are very expensive (as in a few thousands of dollars) so I wasn't expecting this to be a true cold press juicer. I’ve used a handful of juicers over the years, and while they all promised to make my mornings healthier, most just ended up being a pain to clean or too slow to bother with. This one, though, has actually stayed on my counter—and that’s saying a lot. Right away, the extra-wide opening made a big difference. I tossed in whole apples, peeled oranges, even a big handful of spinach, and it powered through without me needing to chop everything into tiny bits first. That alone makes the whole experience way less of a chore. I usually make a big batch in the morning, and the large container is perfect for handling juice for everyone in the house with just one run. The motor doesn’t whine or struggle like some I’ve tried, even when I throw in tougher stuff like beets and ginger. And the juice comes out smooth, not pulpy or foamy. I noticed the colors are more vibrant too—probably because it’s not beating the life out of the ingredients. Everything tastes really fresh and clean. Cleanup is surprisingly fast. I rinse it out right after I’m done, and nothing sticks. I haven’t had to deal with those annoying pulp clogs or hidden crevices that never dry right. I’ve always heard of the advantages of a cold press juicer over a traditional model, so I decided it was time to try one. After a bit of searching, I came across this ‘Fretta 5.3'' Self Feeding Slow Masticating Juicer’ and ordered it. I liked that it matched my kitchen color scheme. This ‘Fretta 5.3'' Self Feeding Slow Masticating Juicer’ does a decent job juicing. I’ve tried it with both fruits and vegetables..i.e…oranges, app,ex, carrots, beets and cucumbers. It did a good job with the apples and the oranges…a little better than my old masticating juicer as the pulp left behind was definitely dryer. With the carrots, beets and cucumbers, this juicer struggled a little which did surprise me. I had to use the plunger a couple of times to get the vegetables to feed properly. The juicer does seem to have adequate power…that’s why it surprised me. The construction of this ‘Fretta 5.3'' Self Feeding Slow Masticating Juicer’ seems fair. The housing is plastic which, to me, seems very thin. The chute and the containers also thin in my opinion. A fall to the floor or exerting too much pressure would definitely crack any of them. I would that an appliance at this juicer’s price point would be better made. As I already mentioned, this juicer does seem to have adequate power to do the job. The motor sounds strong but does grind with harder vegetables. And I was surprised at how quiet the motor is even when it’s juicing. The design of this juicer is a little strange in my opinion. The control knob sits on the back of the juicer if you have it positioned with the logo on the front of the unit which seems correct. It’s inconvenient to have to reach around to the back of the machine to turn it on. I do like the latches on the top of the chute and the juice spout, though. That is a nice feature. In summary, this ‘Fretta 5.3'' Self Feeding Slow Masticating Juicer’ does juice ok. It seems to have decent power and appears to extract most of the juice from whatever you put in it.
