John Travolta is one of the most diverse actors that we have available to us. His performance in this particular film was portrayed with guts, savvy, kill the "bad guys"...take no prisoners and his skills with his hands and guns was so entertaining and how he kept the movie going at an excellent pace and his presence was larger than life. Jon-Rhys as "Reece" did an outstanding portrayal of a "wannabe" and then when he "got to be" was terrified, frustrated and constantly kept on his toes and was always playing the innocent, puzzled, confused and so vulnerable to his love for Carolene. Towards the end of all of the action he finally took on the role of who he evolved into and accepted the fact that he actually could face the fact that he was manipulated and took the stand of let's get this horrific ordeal under control and take the bad guys out of the picture. I was touched, moved and thoroughly entertained. John segued into so many sides of a complex character and yet also showed us a soft vulnerable side to his character as Charlie Wax. I was so "touched" when he took out the pictures of Carolene and handed them to "Reece" in such an understanding show of affection of what love can do to us and yet keep a small part to remember the tenderness that he still could feel no matter what else came out about Carolene's character. Brilliant film by French producers and directors and the ongoing constant motion and movement and "take no prisoners" action. Refreshing and forward movement at every turn. FPWL is a head-swirling yet logical, smart romp. Travolata is sensational and Johnan Rhys Meyers shows he can be too, while being merely great (overwhelmed by the tsunami that is Travolta). A good deal of credit goes to the french producers and creatives, most-apparently Luc Besson and director Pierre Morel (he directed this fine smart/action flick: Taken (Single-Disc Extended Edition) . In both productions the writing is fast and sharp, as well as the rest of the production. I never knew what would happen, other than I came to expect even more of a twist or sensational action explosion. They never let up. What's extraordinary in this action-oriented adventure is the wit and intelligence that keeps pace with the mayhem. For the first time ever I contend with Amazon's Ediitorial Review; "...uncomplicated, moderately entertaining"? No-where near so; 'way beyond that oh-hum description. Only more different, more frenzied action, mayhem. Kept smart all the way. I'd seen it alone, then with friends multiple times and nobody ever didn't ever really like From Paris With Love. Actually it'd be better-said to say that we all were knocked out. It wasn't that each viewer saw different things to like, but the whole package of smart plot, dialogue, every thing worked for all. Even multiple viewings didn't diminish the spark for critical me. I haven't seen such a right, wild flick since SWORDFISH Swordfish . which also was led by Travolta. Same deft touch with great action, production, plot, production and intelligent scripting. FPWL is about as perfect an adult-smart action movie I've ever seen. Read more
