This bag is perfect for those that might need to carry a large amount of stuff or some very bulky items. The main compartment is extremely spacious - I think I heard my voice echoing in there. It is exceptionally wide so you can easily carry clothing, shoes, books, your laptop, an additional portable monitor, all your cables, charger, etc. They say that everything is bigger in Texas - I wonder if this bag was designed there. The front of the bag is also well designed with several pockets, hook and loop patches, and mole straps. I especially love how the front unzips not just partially, but so that the front can be folded down completely giving completely unfettered access to the contents. Great design! Even the side pockets are worth noting. They are both large enough to easily hold a 40 oz. tumbler and also have molle straps. The back of the bag has a large pocket that covers nearly 100% of the back and is perfect for tucking in the backpack when you are not using them. With so much room in the main compartment I found that I had to be careful with how I was loading it. This is because if you decide to carry the bag as a backpack, the bottom surface will become on of the sides, along with the top of the bag and the sides will become the top and bottom of the bag. So, if you plan to carry this as a backpack, consider loading the heaviest items on the side that will become the bottom surface in backpack mode. In my testing, I loaded up the bag with lots of heavy items. It was definitely a big heavy to carry for long distances, but I found it to be quite comfortable on the back. That versatility in a large bag is definitely appreciated. The materials seem to be tough as nails and water repellant. In my opinion, this is a really good design and highly recommended. Overall I like this thing. It's a backpack / hand bag. It's got a lot of internal space. Pros: The material is thick (not cheap). Zippers are sturdy (not cheap). Lots of internal space. Lots of pockets. Lots of external straps (this is a pro and a con) Cons: It is that it has too many loose straps, which tend to get in the way. Wish there were a way to remove, tie up or hide straps you aren't using. The hardware is plastic - it's not likely to break right away, but I foresee broken strap hooks in the not too distant future. You can't really make the bag smaller with draw straps like some other backpacks I have. It's just going to be a big backpack, whether you immediately need all that space or not. Don't like the kitsch rubber black and white American flag. Overall, I think it's a pretty good bag. There are higher quality options out there, but for the price, this is pretty good. Read more
This is a good medium/small bag that can be carried as a backpack or a duffle bag. It is intended as a Messenger bag, but it can double as a single over nighter. You have enough space to pack your laptop along with a few paper files, and still fit one day of clothes and typical toiletries, so this is perfect for me. It's made of durable material that looks like it will hold up well over time. Zippers all seem strong. The shoulder straps store in a pouch to get them out of the way when carrying as a duffle. It's priced about where I would expect to be. I like this bag. It will serve well as a weekender bag. ‐—------------ Statement/Disclaimer: This review is part of Amazon's Vine Program which provides products in exchange for honest reviews. This bag is perfect for many different uses. I really like that it can be a duffle or a backpack thanks to the multiple types of straps. It was a lot of pockets, and it's a good size for a quick trip. I got this for my son who just joined the army so he has something nice sized to use as a carry on for trips home. The fabric is a nice heavy material, and the green color is a nice shade. Very easy to use in multiple situations. Read more
Many years ago, I bought a similar bag for day travel on short flights. It was versatile, being both a suitcase and backpack, but was mainly only good for clothing. This bag does everything that one did, but also has places for a laptop or tablet, phone and several other pockets. If I were minimalist electronics-wise, I could probably use this as my only travel bag. I'm not and have a classic Thule backpack for my travel electronics that I have modified over the years. However, lighter travelers could use this as their only bag. If this bag holds up reasonably well (which seems likely), the value is definitely there. The size is fairly close to what the specs show in the listing and black is always my favorite "color" for a travel bag. I really like the added feature of the exterior hook and loop area to make it easily customizable with the large variety of hook and loop patches available here on Amazon and elsewhere. Read more
