Sorry I'm no hand model, but I wanted to show how this Gellen Matte Top Coat works. This is only for regular polish, NOT gels that cure with a UV lamp. I realized that right after I got out some of my Gellen nail colors to play with. So I used one of my favorite creamy brown regular polishes instead and did one nail with a high shine top coat and the other with this matte coat to compare. As you can see this product clearly does the matte finish effect promised! There's some caveats though if you like this style... Make sure you do a good base coat because I didn't and every flaw in my nail bed is accentuated. It takes as long to dry as a shiny coat, but it's not excessive. It's also a tiny bit more prone to chipping or scratching because it lacks the thicker protection of a clear coat. But besides all that it's a cool effect that also works with shimmer polishes I tried and makes them have a flatter metallic sheen. Until now I had only used matte top coat with gel polish. I was really glad to find this one to use with regular nail polish/lacquer since it's nice to take a break once in a while from the commitment gel polish requires, but still have design options that include a matte look. I've used several Gellen products before and have found them to be quite reliable, this matte top coat is no exception. It works well and dries relatively quickly. It leaves a nice solid matte finish that looks great. The fact that it has calcium to help strengthen my nails is a nice bonus too. The price is really good for the size of the bottle, which will last quite a while, and for the quality. And speaking of the bottle, I love their large solid rectangular bottles, they stay put when I'm using them and don't make me worry they'll fall over and spill if I breathe too heavily on it, like some super thin bottles do. I can definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to have options with the finish of their nail polish. No UV/LED light required, just good old fashioned air dry nail lacquer with an air dry top coat. Simple yet beautiful. Read more

Experience has shown me that matte top coat takes practice and patience. They tend to show any imperfections more so than gloss or glitter top coats. That being said, this one stands out for good reason. The consistency is a bit thinner than others I’ve tried thus making it easier to apply and doesn’t need as many brush strokes. It does have a strong smell but not like regular nail polish and it faded very quickly. I only applied one coat and let it air dry. While my application still needs work I can see myself reaching for this bottle over others. The bottle size is very generous and again I found it easier to apply making me more confident. Read more

This is my first time using a matte top coat, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The polish was thin, which made it really easy to put on an even coat without any clumping or thick spots. It brushed on very smoothly and was easy to control the amount applied with the brush. It also dried incredibly quickly. By the time I finished one hand, the first nail I did on that hand was completely dry. It was so perfectly dry that I could rub my nails on fabric and they would not smudge. The matte effect is a nice change from shiny nails. The color remained the same but was slightly muted after applying the matte coat. I did not find the odor of the polish to be any different from my other top coat products. Since it takes very little product to complete my nails, I think the bottle will last quite a long time. This seems to work well! You can see on my pinky finger where I had shiny clear polish in one of the pictures and then after I put on the Matt topcoat how it was a matte finish. It seems like it works well! Read more

I find this Gellen Nail Polish Top Coat (Matte) to be easy to apply to my polished nails. It dries very quickly and as is my usual practice, I always apply 2 layers of top coat as I am very hard on my nails. The top coat does have a strong smell out of the bottle but dissipates quickly after full drying. It is a non-UV top coat. I greatly appreciate that this product is free from toxins, TMPTA (trimethylolpropane triacrylate), TPO(trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide), HEMA (2‑Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate). Moving into a 'cleaner' nail polish is definitely part of my DIY manicure agenda. This is my first time using a matte finish top coat. It definitely provides a more subtle vibe than a glossy top coat. Depending on the polish color, it can provide a more velvet-like look to the manicure. This top coat works great to seal on designs without making them super shiny. I like using it to mute the background color on my rhinestone nails so it doesn't take away from the shine of the rhinestones. It goes on evenly and the brush doesn't fan out while being used. It doesn't have a smell at all and dries really quickly. When wet it will look shiny till it drys and reveals a nice velvety looking finish. You only need one coat to seal and get the mate effect to work properly so you won't need to use a lot. It's a good top coat and is air dry so it doesn't need a lamp. It's not expensive and worth buying to achieve a matte look from home. Read more
