This kid's backpack is more of a be-seen backpack than a functional piece of luggage. The fabric is quite thick and sturdy and very waterproof; the pattern is eye-catching and bold, and the black-and-white color is absolutely suitable for any gender. However, this pack is very minimally-padded and the straps have virtually no cushion; this is not a pack for actually carrying heavy books. The buckles and zippers are plastic except that the zippers have a metal pull tab. The pack has a large main compartment with an unpadded laptop pocket, two smaller external zipper pockets (not further subdivided) and an external flap pocket. The two elastic side pockets will hold an average-size water bottle or a 20 oz soda bottle and will probably also hold a compact umbrella reasonably securely. I would say the $19 asking price is adequate, but be aware that you are not getting something the kid will haul a day's worth of books in comfortably. Read more
