This is a Genmai Matcha: a premium Japanese green tea With added brown rice and Matcha. It is also a Fukamushi Sencha: a "Deep Steam" tea which is the characteristic style of southern Shizuoka. Shizuoka Prefecture is Japan's preeminent tea growing region and is responsible for more than 40% of Japan's overall tea production. But it's much more than merely the quantity of production that makes Shizuoka such an esteemed tea growing region, it's the high quality of green tea that's produced there that gives the region its cachet. This "Deep Steam" method usually finishes with a high heat roasting (2 or 3 times greater than or from 60-120 seconds longer than the usual Sencha roasting period) which brings out a much richer aroma, and that strong, long-lasting (though occasionally indefinable) umami finish that is consistently intense even after multiple steepings. I routinely infuse these magnificent Sencha green teas 3-4 times without losing any of their intensely vegetal flavor: a flavor that usually retains its depth, complexity and sweetness throughout multiple steepings, giving these pricey green teas much greater value and making them something of a high-quality bargain. Not only is this tea grown in soil to which sugarcane has been added, which makes the tea taste a little sweeter without upsetting its delicate balance of flavor, but roasted brown rice is added as well. This Genmaicha style tea has a warm, nutty flavor that adds a great deal of depth and complexity: but the roasted brown rice also moderates the natural astringency of this intensely flavored green tea. It is also mild and easy on the stomach with reasonable caffeine levels. To top it all off, Matcha is added and gives this green tea an even richer vegetal flavor. You can see the green Matcha powder coating the brown rice and tea leaves. It's not an overwhelming amount, just a dusting that gives an already tasty, complex tea some additional character. The result is a delicious green tea with some unique flavor characteristics. Brew this tea gently, steeping it for a few minutes in freshly boiled water that's been allowed to cool to around 170 degrees. It will reward 2 or even 3 additional infusions. Double the steeping time for each additional infusion in order to maximize flavor. This is another superb green tea from the Japanese Green Tea Co., one of my favorite sources for excellent tea produced by using traditional methods. Read more

This tea looks like powdered matcha with tiny blades of grass that have been cut short with roasted brown rice included. The ingredients are actually green tea and brown rice. This tea has a fragrant aroma that is slightly vegetal but mostly toasty. I brewed one teaspoon at 185 degrees for 2 minutes in 10 ounces of water. The resulting brew was a very cloudy green and the flavor and aroma was toasty with subtle sweet vegetal overtones. I really like this tea. I actually feel like I am drinking something very healthy when drinking this. I also love that this comes from Japan instead of China. The current price of $35 for a 7-ounce bag comes to $5 per ounce which I consider expensive but competitively priced. This comes in a resealable pouch. Read more

Genmai Matcha I’m a great fan of Genmai tea but I don’t like this Genmai matcha as much. It’s pretty much a mix of Genmai and Matcha. Although I can still taste and smell Genmai, but it loses the aroma of a normal Genmai tea. Also it tasted like dried seaweeds. I asked my boyfriend to tried this and he also had the same feeling. This is a very nice blend of fukamushi sencha green tea with matcha and roasted popped brown rice. I steep a teaspoon of this in a cup of 175° hot water for 30-60 seconds. It comes out bright green in color. It has a smooth and rich flavor with a nice hint of roasted rice. Not astringent but very mildly bitter probably due to the matcha. The aroma is light but pleasant. I really enjoy it. It is smooth and warming to drink, especially nice for the stomach after dinner. This comes in a resealable, foil-lined bag. The ingredients are green tea, and brown rice. It is a blend of loose green tea leaves with matcha powder and roasted brown rice. The quality seems great and fresh. Product of Japan. Overall, I really like this genmai-matcha. Rich flavor and nice aroma. Smooth and easy to drink. At $0.35 (1 tsp) per serving, it is a good value for the money. I would recommend giving it at try. If you like genmaicha and matcha, you'll like this. Good tea. Read more

This one was quite a surprise. Yes, it's green tea but it's good green tea, as opposed to most of the product available on our market. Probably because it's coming straight from Japan and, as we all know, unlike us, the Japanese are taking their green tea very seriously. Thanks to the added ingredients, the flavor is rich and you only need very little of this near-powder concoction to make a good cup of tea. With a tea bottle, I was able to use the same tea for three consecutive brewings so it could almost be viewed as a tea money saver. Read more
