Interesting as long as you are a guitarist.

This would be very hard for a non musician to deal with. Tuning is difficult but not impossible. You have to tune sharp and then sneak down to the right pitch. Having an understanding of a keyboard would be helpful but not required. I got this for 30 dollars less on a Black Friday. $64 seemed reasonable for it. I don’t think another $40 for a pickup is worth it. It’s a great portable instrument and has a nice foam case. Perfect travel size. Read more

Very narrow string spacing and unreasonably taxing finger pressure to use fret board.

I wanted to like this instrument, but there's just severe limitations with it. The most unnecessary limitation is how close the strings are. It makes it very difficult to pluck without bopping your finger into other strings. I have a 10 string lyre which has more space, and it's like night and day with how easy it is to pluck quickly. This instrument could have been fixed by just making it wider. It would still have been plenty compact. But I guess in order to save money and impress people with how small it is, they made this poor design choice. The second severe limitation as others have pointed out is how extremely taxing it is to press down on the fret to make sharp notes. And this is supposed to be the main selling point of this instrument! Its much much more taxing than pressing down on a guitar because this fret is so narrow that you have to use much more force on you poor fingers! Basically it's infeasible to do in the long run. Overall it makes the primary purpose of this instrument somewhat useless. I'm pretty disappointed in this. The sound at least is fine, although I actually dislike how much it resonates since it all starts turning into a mush of noise after a while. But I think most people actually like resonation, so I wouldn't necessarily consider that a negative, more just my personal preference. At $100 I actually consider this fairly reasonable for what it could have been. But the drawbacks just make it not worth it. I hope in the future they fix these issues with a new design, but I doubt that will happen. It's a shame because this would be such a great instrument if it could reasonably let you play sharps. There's nothing like it in the family of these portable lyres. But right now the design sadly is just not good enough. Read more

Portable instrument for pianists

fun to play, but hard to tune. The notes are high, so the slightest turn puts you out of tune. And the half-steps are harder to play than I’d like. Read more

Warm sound, sensitive tuning

The media could not be loaded. This guitar harp is a new instrument to me. I play guitar and have spent 30 minutes making a harp sing, so I figured that’s a good foundation for this instrument. It helps. I play this flat on the table, most similar to keyboard posture. This was not tuned when it arrived, but it comes prestrung. I had a hard time using my tuner on it, the tuning is extremely sensitive. The lightest twist moves a whole note, not like tuning a guitar where the knobs are geared down. Comes with a wood handled allen wrench for tuning, it’s necessary to have that longer handle. I used a tapping motion to reach the desired note. Includes some picks and the neoprene zippered case. The case is just a neoprene pocket, no structure for protection. I dropped this in the case and put a crack into the corner of the plastic bridge that covers the tuning keys. Luckily it missed the wood and didn’t affect the sound. The strings ring clear, it makes a pleasant sound. It plays like a harp with so many strings, and reverberates like a guitar with the wooden body. The woodwork is done well, it has a clean uniform finish and tight joints. It doesn’t have that rattly sound that happens in cheap guitars. Maybe because there’s no neck. Either way, I’m satisfied with the quality. This is worth the price. The single fret takes some getting used to. It’s a tight space and I don’t know how to use my hands on it. I keep thinking it should have a lever to do all the strings at once. Read more

Guitar Harp | Hanago MD28 [16 Strings but Playable 28 Notes]

I've never more than messed with a harp once or twice, but play guitar and have some experience with pianos, and this looked to be something that might be fun to use similar to a harp. The overall look of it is nice, and the hardware for the strings is solid. It was shipped with all the strings tuned low (not really tuned to anything) I assume to keep down on stress when it is sitting in the box. I pulled out my tuner and started to try and tune it all up. Which turned out to be long and mostly because my tuner was designed for instruments you plug in, or have a louder resonator, it was a nightmare. The manual, which is pretty good, showed a clip on tuner for tuning it, which it doesn't come with. I spent the extra fifteen bucks to buy a clip on tuner and that made it much easier to tune. There are a lot of strings and I found it a bit more tedious to get them all tuned accurately, and of course a day later it needed to be tuned again (but this is the same with my guitar too, so to be expected). I think my only real disappointment is how quite it is. You have to use a pick to get a solid note out of it which makes playing with your fingers alone not much good for anyone but yourself and not even that if it is very noisy. The other minor annoyance is that I can't find a way to hold it to make it easy to play and used the half notes from the top. I kind of wish they had used the harp system of being able to set each string with a lever so you could have the whole thing tuned to the key you wanted to play. Retuning it would take a long time. I still kind of like it, but I think it could be better. Read more
