these shorts look much shorter on me in terms of the rise from crotch to top of the waist than on the models. everything's covered and not tightly, just more ... provocatively than expected. The taper to the leg openings bring them snug but not tight to my thighs, and can keep the family jewels secure whether you wear anything under the shorts or not. There's enough room for everything up front without it being tight in the crotch, but if you are really packing, that weight will bring the load-bearing front section down over the hem around the thighs in a way thats very "fashion forward". I have my own gym, so I don't have to worry about causing a commotion. If I wore these to a public gym, I would have to be feeling very self-confidently and exibitionist. I looked hard to find replacement gym shorts that didn't look like these baggy, unattractive, almost-to-the-knees sort of thing many guys seem to wear these days. Those to me are a complete turn-off. I wanted something with the look of classic gym shorts, as they used to be, and these fill the bill. They're sexy, show off my legs nicely, comfortable, and seem well made. The color has held through much use and many washings. I like to exercise without underwear, and that is one thing to look out for since they're short and tight enough that you risk being a public spectacle on certain exercise machines if one isn't careful. I do believe the size is short for the manner. So to be safe I recommend ordering a size up. Normally I fit a medium well but I ordered an large and it's perfect. Also the short is short!
