MUCH Quieter than Cuisinart - and makes great ice cream!
I first purchased a Cuisinart ICE-21 thinking Cuisinart would be a better quality brand but returned it after only using it a couple of times because the Cuisinart was so LOUD. When using it I couldn't stand to even be in the kitchen at the same time, it was awful. I had never owned an ice cream maker before but couldn't believe they all would be so noisy so decided to look for another brand. The Hamilton Beach 68220 makes the same amount of ice cream - both are 1.5 quart ice cream makers but this one is much quieter. It's also easy to clean and the ice cream comes out great. I purchased mine in June and have been using it regularly all summer, it's now October and it's running well and still quiet. I keep my ice cream maker on it's own shelf in my freezer so it's always ready to go. I let it freeze for 48 hours before using it the first time - I read that hint by another Amazon reviewer. I have been trying to make low sugar ice cream because my husband is diabetic and discovered if I use 1/3 cup "Splenda for Cooking" along with 1/4 cup Blue Agave Nectar the Blue Agave keeps the ice cream from freezing solid. I add the sweeteners to 2 cans of evaporated milk (I keep a few cans in the refrigerator ready to use) and 2 Tbsp. vanilla and it makes great low sugar vanilla ice cream. Amazon also sells great containers for keeping your homemade ice cream in - Tovolo Glide-A-Scoop Ice Cream Tub. They're kind of expensive but I think they're worth it, well made and just the right size to hold 1.5 quarts of ice cream. Read more
