When I purchased these, I didn’t realize they were V-Neck, which my husband is not fond of. Ironically, I keep finding them in the laundry basket so I guess it doesn’t bother him too much. He needs white, plain and simple to go under his wife chef coats. The fabric quality is thin, but that’s what he wants, especially in the summer. I do bleach these every other wash, to keep them fresh and white. So far, the quality has held up, just as much as the other more expensive undershirts I’ve gotten him (without the V neck of course!). He says they’re comfortable, but only after the 3rd/4th wash. I use a little extra fabric softener and that does the trick. Size fit perfectly. I got between a medium and large depending on what he’s using them for… although they’re mostly used to go under shirts and chef coats. He likes them snug and not baggy so I usually go with the medium. I’m taking off one star because I would not pay full price. Not to mention, the wearability is not great. They last a few months before I need to buy another package. If I didn’t bleach them, I’m sure they would last longer, but I’d rather buy new ones then to look at a bunch of stains and a dingy yellow tint to them. Overall, I would buy them again, just not the V-Neck… despite the fact that my husband has plenty of the regular neck available to him and he still wears these. Read more
The inherent problem with v-neck white undershirts is that the manufacturer does not know if it will be worn under something or on its own. Old schoolers such as Hanes assume the former and therefore make the neck wide so that when you unbutton the collar of the overshirt, the undershirt is not visible, which is the whole reason it exists compared to the crew neck which is visible. But if you are wearing a v-neck on its own, this creates a blousy floppy look which is apparent when you compare it to colored v-necks, which are not intended for undershirt use and a narrower tighter collar. Gildan undershirts do not make this old school assumption and instead have a narrower neck almost like colored standalone v-neck shirts. But If you prefer Hanes fabric which is a bit cooler and lighter than Gildan for summer wear, one option is to stir the shirt in boiling or close to boiling water and dry it in high heat to shrink and thereby narrow the collar. Since sizing these shirts is already problematic given typical ranges going straight from 38-40 (39 in effect) to 42-44 (43 in effect) which means there is no size 41, you'll want to buy the next size up from your preferred fit and then shrink down from there. If you are a size 41 this is the only way to get a correct size shirt sentinel 40-42 size is even offered, and, further, to shrink the collar so it is not blousy if you want to wear the Hanes white v-neck undershirt as a standalone. This also works with Gildan though their v-neck collar does not require quite as much narrowing as Hanes. As Hanes comes to realize that the old school concept of v-necks being used as undershirts is becoming outdated, hopefully they will narrow their v-neck collar as Gildan has done, though it too could benefit find narrowing slightly more. Both great companies and understandable reasons for their choices. If Hanes is committed to wide v-neck undershirts to remain unseen under and over shirt, Hanes would benefit from offering a separate narrow v-neck product to let the customer choose which they prefer. 100% Cotton is a must for my dry skin. And knowing that 100% cotton suffers shrinkage over its lifetime, compounded by use of a dryer, I order 1 size larger. These t-shirts are doing a great job for me, and are a great value for my hard earned money. My wife likes the Style Happy Wife! Happy Life! Happy Husband! Read more
Scratchy... I bought these very same shirts two years ago and they were much nicer and softer. These things are a little bit more comfortable than fine grit sandpaper. The only reason I buy the stuff is cuz I don't want to go to the store. But definitely... People should go to the store and avoid this ever-cheapening Amazon garbage Read more
