About this item

  • Limitless Styling Possibilities: This groundbreaking formulation is one part styling wax, one part dry shampoo. This high-hold product adds volume, absorbs excessive oil, and adds texture with zero weight.
  • Matte Styling Masterpiece: Ideal for thick or thin hair, Quicksand provides a “sea salt”, ultra-matte finish and adds great lift to second-day hair. It’s great for achieving beachy textured looks with high volume and hold. The product also works as a pre-styler when cocktailing with other Hanz de Fuko products for amplified control.
  • Helps Promote Healthy Hair: Quicksand is rich in botanical ingredients that strengthen hair. Jojoba oil moisturizes the hair and prevents hair loss, castor seed oil strengthens hair follicles and promotes hair growth, horsetail fern extract relieves scalp irritation and helps reduce dandruff, and eucalyptus extract promotes thicker hair and stimulates hair growth. The gritty formula also contains diatomaceous earth, a soft granular rock similar to pumice that sucks up excess oil on the hair and scalp.
  • Easy to Apply, Lasts All Day: Rub a small pinch between your fingertips and apply to second-day hair beginning at the roots for added lift and texture. Apply to damp hair and blow dry for gravity defying volume.
  • Premium Hair Products Since 2009: Founded in Los Angeles, Hanz de Fuko has built up a passionate following as a result of our commitment to high quality, innovative hair and beauty products.

Great, matte finish

I’ve tried a lot of styling products, and Hanz de Fuko Quicksand stands out. It gives a very strong hold with a dry, matte finish — no greasy shine at all. It adds noticeable volume and texture, especially if you apply it to dry hair. Read more

The best men’s hair product!

jesse minorJanuary 14, 2026✓ Verified purchase

This is THE best mens hair product I have ever used. Not sticky, doesn’t make hairs clump together to look wet AND the style stays in place. My hair still looks great at the end of the work day … without feeling stiff. The scent is great too. This is the only product I’ve found that has dry shampoo added in. I think that’s the secret Read more

Grainy but holds very well.

I use a clay or paste daily. This brand has a great hold with the formula allowing for wet hair to dry properly in place without the “wet look”. Hold last all day very easily and allow allows for easy manipulation throughout the day for the look that you’re looking for. I would recommend this product very easily and love the fact that the scent is very very light. A little bit goes a very long way and a tub of this would last many many months maybe even a year. Gives your hair a slight grainy feel and it works very well. Works well with dyed hair. Read more

Just the Right Balance of Hold and Ease of Application

Litag8rAugust 3, 2024✓ Verified purchase

I have used the Aveda men's grooming clay for years and recently moved to Highland because of some ads that said it was awesome. Turns out that that I was missing with Aveda was longevity. The Aveda product simply disappeared when I got hot, or it was very humid, or it rained a little. Basically any moisture would make it simply disappear. I wanted something with better hold, and I didn't know until I tried something else. However, the Highland glacial clay is the polar opposite. It is made of wax and it is very sticky. Not only does it stay on your hair, but you have to rub it off your hands with a towel because soap and water have no effect on it. Also, I would pull out my hair when putting it on. Once I put it on my hair, my hair was flat and that was the way it stayed. It was simply too much. I was staring right down on the Goldilocks problem, so I did what everyone does in 2024, I conducted an online search, developed a list of candidates, and read reviews. I was stumped with several products, so I decided to buy the most popular one--Quicksand. This stuff is just right. It goes on pretty easily without pulling my hair out. Like Highland, you have to warm it up in your hands, but this is more clay and less wax. It lasts all day no matter the weather. It does not look slick, shiny, or greasy. Like the name implies, it leaves your hair dry looking. I put it on when my hair is barely damp. It makes my already thin hair a little flat at first. But over the morning, my hair rises to the desired look. Unlike Aveda or Highland, if the wind blows my hair, for example, I can run my hand through my hair without destroying the hold or the look. Sometimes when i first get up in the morning, my hair is like Doc Brown from Back to the Future, but all I have to do is push it back down and I'm good until I shower and start all over again. I don’t know what the "dry shampoo" thing is about, and I almost did not buy it because that was in the title. I would recommend that you give this a shot unless you want the slick or shiny look. See if you agree. Read more

Not High Hold, Weird Yellowish Color?

LexiFebruary 6, 2026✓ Verified purchase

I read several reviews and this hair clay was highly recommended, so I decided to try it because my old clay was discontinued. It says "high hold". It is definitely not what I would consider "high hold". Probably "medium hold", as it can still stay fairly styled if I use a decent amount, but I frequently have to run my hands through my hair throughout the day to re-shape, and then use more of the wax. And if your hair hasn't been thoroughly dried (like if it has any moisture in it AT ALL), forget about this clay having any hold. Also, in the product pictures, this is supposed to be an off-white/sandy color. Mine is like yellow-brown with a greenish tint, I'll include a picture. If you're wanting a clay that you don't have to re-apply and re-shape a few times a day, this isn't the one for you. And the fact that I have to re-apply it a few times a day uses so much of the clay, and it's already an expensive/small jar. Even using a lot does not go a long way... The texture is ok, it's not globby, doesn't clump hairs together. Has a nice matte finish. It says "beachy texture", I would say it has a slightly "grainy-ish" feeling, but not super noticeable, it feels pretty dry and thin (I'm not sure how you would phrase this?). Read more
