Bought this Almost 2yrs ago and still works perfect!

I was searching for two things in a mini heat gun: Digital Temp Adjustment, and fan control. The PROS: This one has BOTH! Another thing I like to see is a way to see the temp display in Farenheit and have it set that way. This one can be easily programmed to always show Farenheit. It also has a memory function so I can leave it set to specific temp since I pull this one out when doing delicate shrink wrap work. It heats up to 375F almost instantly, vs my heat gun, which takes about 10seconds to start really warming up. I use this mini heat gun probably 3x per week and have been doing that for almost 2 yrs now... still work perfectly. It also comes with a wall mount. The Cons: That said, be sure to buy a little heat shield since it DOES put off a lot of heat. And it should really be unplugged after you are done with it for the day, as the grip seems to have some heat to it in the "off" position if it is plugged in. This makes me nervous so I just keep it unplugged (unless I forget, which is occasional). Outside of that, this has been the best mini heat gun. for bigger shrink wrap projects that require more volume of air to move, I recommend a heat GUN with digital adjustable Farenheit temp control and fan control... I can't stress those two big things being such an important consideration. I had a non-digital before and I end up just "guessing" what range of temp I am using... with digital, I can safely dial in the perfect temp so I don't "melt" the shrink wrap, or start burning the polyolefin. Great tool for SMD work

I have used this heatgun to remove mini USB connectors, QFN packages, 0603 components etc. This is a very useful tool and has allowed me to do repair work that previously was extremely challenging. The unit I received was very well packaged and very well manufactured. Adjustable airflow and temperature works very well. If you use the switch mounted on the handle to turn it off, it will go through a full cool-down cycle before turning the airflow off. This is a great feature that will prevent heat damage to the tool itself. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase. It is a very nice tool! Read more

Bought This For Resin Work

LATEST UPDATE 5/7/19: Maxwell Manufacturing sent me another heat gun to use and I have now. On a few resin projects. I changed my rating back to 4 stars and here are my findings: It was very easy to change from C temps to F temps. The heat came on and was easily adjustable. However, the fan is so very faint, even on the highest setting, it didn't even move the resin which was not a good thing for me in that I needed this to do ocean waves in resin and part of that is getting that white foamy effect of waves rolling up on the sand. I had to resort to a small travel hair dryer, which was a bit too strong, but better than nothing. Other than the fact that the fan on this tool is very weak, everything else worked just fine. I sure wish they had a much stronger fan in this so if I wanted strong, I'd have it by turning the control dial all the way up and if I needed just a little, I'd only have to turn it down. This tool is a great idea and I haven't found anything else yet quite like this. But, back to the drawing board, so to speak. UPDATED 4/24/19 TO LOWER STAR RATING: I have now rated this 1-star (down from 4). I was SO excited to get this a couple weeks ago and finally, today, I got to try it out when I was working on some resin projects for my Etsy shop. Within three minutes of turning it on, and while I was trying to adjust the fan speed it started snapping and popping, the fan wouldn't adjust higher and then I quickly unplugged it before it could explode! This was NOT good. A very bad time for this to happen right when I'm working on Mother's Day gifts to sell in my Etsy shop! VERY BAD! Amazon has now sent me a return label and they are refunding me right away. I had really high hopes for this little heat gun, too! :( My Original Review: I really like this little heat tool, it's fairly easy to use. I purchased it for use on epoxy resin when I'm making jewelry and need to get the bubbles out without using my torch. The only problem I have is that I cannot change from C to F. I followed the instructions repeatedly but it refuses to change to F, hence, only 4 stars instead of 5. Will edit this and add the fifth star if we ever get the C/F temp to where I want it. All in all, it seems pretty good. However, I've had it less than an hour, so we'll see if it holds up! For nearly $60, it better! Read more

No ventilation

Pros - it works well and the included tips are definitely useful - easy to use and easy to adjust the temperature Cons - the electronic components have nearly no ventilation, which is probably why people have been having issues with these - the included stand works, but it worries me a bit because it can accidentally be knocked over, or the cord could get caught on something and yanked, etc. Be careful when using it! When you turn it off, it does make sure to cool itself to 100 degrees prior to fully powering off, however you need to make sure to leave it on the stand for a bit because it is still hot. Overall I like it's ease of use, smaller footprint and included tips, but you definitely need to be careful with it and make sure you don't keep it powered on for too long to prevent the electrical components from overheating. Amazingly small, yet a ease to use!

I like this heat gun very much. It's overall size is quite compact, however it includes two unbeatable functions that many larger heat guns does not provide - digital temperature control and air flow control. Temperature control is such a great feature. It's digital meaning you know what temperature you get, and it is precise so you control to each single number. It is accurate enough that I used a IR temperature reader and it is within 1 or 2 degree C of skew. Way too accurate for most usage. Air flow control is not digital but good enough for usage too. However the range is not exactly wide, and using a lower flow is more risky to cause over heat. But I find these are not so much of an issue in real usage. Read more
