Great jacket, great quality, reasonably priced.

Nice fit and actually warmer than I expected. It says it’s for “moderately wet weather”, whatever that is. I think HH mentions that to differentiate between their really wet weather jackets for sailing and other sports. We haven’t experienced torrential downpours since I got it, so I can’t comment on that, but it works well in rain. The hood has an adjustment to tighten it around your face, but no adjustment to pull the hood back, like some other raincoats do, so the soft lid in the front of the hood sometimes comes down too far in front of my eyes, so I just fold it back. The hood tucks into the neck of the jacket when not in use. Read more

Nice features - be sure you want a fitted jacket!

GregorySeptember 6, 2024✓ Verified purchase

Feature notes: The jacket is high quality and very good looking. YKK zippers, an inside pocket, and stowable hood. It has snaps on the front to close the storm flap over the zipper (versus Velcro). The wrist cuffs have a bit of elasticity and an extra snap adjustment to fine tune from there. The neck / collar is lined with a skin-friendly fleece which was an important variable for me. The body and arms have a light lining so wearing in short sleeves feels just fine. No pit zips though! Appearance: The Helly Hansen branding on many jackets is pretty bold. It’s subdued in the black jacket variant which makes it versatile for office or casual use. It’s really sharp! Fit: If you like all those features too, then the trick to whether you will like this jacket is if you prefer a very fitted torso/waist. I have tried on two other HH jackets and can confirm this is different than what you normally get for size ‘X’. This has true to size sleeve length, shoulder and chest width, but then tapers down (a full size) in the torso and waist to a smaller size. If you carry noticeable ‘belly’ you will likely not like this jacket. You could size up beyond your normal clothing size, but then the arms may be very long. If you are not carrying (much) extra belly you can order your size (or larger of the two if you straddle two sizes) and will have a very nice looking fit. It is more cut like a V than any jacket I own. I find the arm movement is also very good with little to no raising of the jacket when I lifer my arms. THIS JACKET IS A KEEPER - BUT IF YOU CARRY BELLY WEIGHT LOOK ELSEWHERE, OR TAKE YOUR CHANCES BY SIZING UP! Read more

Great jacket!

This is a great coat, fits super well through body, a little snug at the waist, but none of that baggy/saggy jacket look. Would be just as effective out and about as on a boat, very waterproof, good hood. Stylish! Read more

Nice jacket-runs small

AJDecember 7, 2015✓ Verified purchase

This is a nice jacket – I would buy it again. However, as other reviewers have noted, it runs on the small side. My last rain jacket was a medium but based on the reviews I ordered this in large which turned out to be a good decision. I wanted some extra room to allow me to wear a sweater or light fleece underneath and also a little extra length to fall slightly below the waist, The large size accomplishes that, yet the sleeves don’t seem to be too long. Even so, the jacket seems to still fit snuggly around the mid section. I’ve worn it a few times in light to moderate rain and it has kept me dry while the hood ties have kept the hood on in a stiff wind. The inside pocket is nice for storing my cell phone; the outside pockets are not as deep as those on my previous jacket but seem sufficient and have a nice soft lining that keeps your hands warm when needed. I haven’t worn it in warm weather yet but after a day wearing it while doing moderate paced walking in 50 degree temperatures it seemed to let the perspiration out sufficiently. The hood stows away nicely and without too much hassle when not in use. I wish it had a 2-way zipper to allow you to unzip it from the bottom when sitting down. The Velcro closures keeping the storm flap closed over the zipper are a nice touch and the velcro around the wrists allow you to get the type of fit that you want in that area. All in all, it seems to be a good purchase for a casual rain jacket that can be worn in a variety of situations. Read more

Great fit and a real solid jacket.

Loudermilk’sJanuary 30, 2016✓ Verified purchase

Finally a rain and wind jacket for those of us who are on the slim side! I usually wear a small so I got a small and voila, perfection. I had the Mountain Hardwear Plasmic (small) and it engulfed me. I'm 5'10 - 155 lbs. the fit is great for me and enough to put a thin fleece under it. Arm length is a little past the wrist. The waist is a wee bit snug but that's just a small quibble. Solid looking jacket! Im gonna take it for a spin as a shell for skiing so we'll see how it holds up! Update: Took it out and used it as a shell for snow skiing. Temps were about 33 degrees or so, not too cold IMO. Had a base layer and a ultra light down jacket then the HH. I was thoroughly impressed on how it kept the wind out, breathed and kept me very comfortable. The high collar was nice as I would just zip it up and down when necessary. So far so good! We'll see how it holds up long term but for now, it's a great buy! Read more

Very Waterproof. Well made.

Waterproof, very well made. I've used it all winter in snow, rain, sleet. No leaks. Warm. Not for below zero temps, but pretty darn comfortable for its weight. Nice coat at a good price. If you are between LG AND XL, get the XL. It runs a touch small. Read more
