I ordered this hidden camera detector because I am always paranoid about myself and my family being spied on while traveling. I’ve heard that a lot of hotel rooms and Airbnbs are bugged out with all kinds of hidden cameras in bathrooms and such, which freaks me out. So I was excited to come across this little device to try! I found this device to be tricky to use at first. I followed the directions carefully but couldn’t get it to work into the correct mode myself. I was about ready to give up and just chalk it up to being a cheap little toy that didn’t actually work, but my husband was able to figure out how to get it into some mode where he could see a red light when he shined it into his phone camera. So it definitely takes some practice before taking this with you on vacation or you just might end up frustrated trying to troubleshoot. I like that it also functions as a mini alarm, which I can see being useful on a hotel door handle so no one can sneak in. We tested it out and the alarm does seem effective! The way this little device works is that it has some red LEDs that you turn on. If you look through the red filter window, any camera lenses around will reflect a red dot that's easily visible looking through the filter. I have a small surveillance camera as part of my security package, and I can see the red dot reflected from its lens Bear in mind that other things can also reflect, but probably won't be the neat little dot of a camera lens. This device can also tell if infrared is being transmitted, so if a camera is using its "night" mode, i.e. lighting the scene with IR, then this device will also "see" the camera. My surveillance camera does use IR when it's dark, and the device beeps when it senses the IR. A secondary feature is a movement sensor that you can use as an intruder alert. Their instruction manual suggests you mount the device on your door, and if it gets jiggled, it'll start beeping. It's pretty sensitive, so you'd probably want to check that the door is stable enough to prevent false alarms. A minor third feature is a flashlight, where there's a little white LED that can be turned on/off. There is only one button controlling all this functionality, with a two-way switch and long or short presses. Main reason for ordering this? I ordered this to have peace of mind when I go stay in a hotel, motel or an AirBNB. You never know if someone is watching. I would especially use it at an AirBNB since it is not ran by a nationwide chain. How does it work? You first need to charge the battery and then turn on the light and look around the room for red lights through the red lens. If a camera exists, it will show up in the lens. Of course it many works for cameras with night vision enabled, but should detect most cameras. How is the quality? The quality is a good as it gets. I also love that it has other features that I didn’t even know it had such as a door alarm and flashlight. What were the results? I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but I can’t wait to try it out in a hotel. I am sure it will work fine. I highly recommend this especially for anyone that travels a lot.
