From cell phones to microwaves, it can be frustrating at first trying to ADJUST the sensitivity to the proper level. This does require some trial and error so be patient. When cell phones are in Wi-Fi mode, the pen will alarm. TIP: When searching for suspecting devices keep your cell phone off Wi-Fi or away from pen during searches. (2) Pinhole camera detection: Great for those tiny PIN HOLE cameras you can not see unless you are right on top of it, so the RED FILTER did a good job finding our test pinhole cam. NOTE: It does take a bit of time scanning the room and of course best used in the dark! You will be looking for a RED REFLECTION which would indicate a possible camera lens. Then close examination of the area is your next step. BEST FEATURE: (3) Door/luggage sensor alarm. I turned on the movement alarm wait 60 seconds and the alarm sounded off the ear piercing 130 decibels with the red LEDs flashing. The reason I wrote best feature is of all features this is the EASIEST and worked the BEST! No trial and error. Simply alarm, hang and wait 1 minute! ( see video). RF INTERFERENCES: Cell phones, cell towers, microwaves and other nearby RF electronic devices will set off the alarm. SETTING the alarm pen to the proper signal strength is required by pressing the button to adjust its sensitivity. The scanner arrived pre-charged. I really like the door alarm function. I set the alarm to ask mode and let it sit on the door for 60 seconds, then the alarm has been set. The moment I move the door, the alarm went off. This is a great tool for me to use if I traveling alone. The camera scanning function works very well. The down side is that cell phone signal and other electronic does interference with the alarm. I prefer to use the camera scanning option with the light. That gives more accurate information. This item has 3 modes - I'll comment on each here and summarize the device overall below: 1) WiFi/RF Detector: a) Can detect WiFi emitters if you get close enough. b) Adjustable sensitivity level of limited use since to detect WiFi sources you have to be within a 3-4 feet of the source at most sensitive setting. c) Can be set to audible alarm or vibration mode (press and hold "Ok" button 2) Camera Detector: a) Can detect cameras (hidden or not) b) Have to be looking almost directly into the camera to detect, however. If you look at the camera from more than ~30 degrees from direct it couldn't detect the camera. c) Due to how this works in general you will likely get get a lot of false positives - single point red reflections. Each needs to be looked at separately. d) Has 4 modes - red lights constantly on or flashing at 3 different pause levels e) Enabling mode is not intuitive: you have to turn the device to "Motion Sensor" mode, then press "Ok" quickly to enable Camera Detection mode. 3) Motion Sensor a) Enabled 60 seconds after item is put in Motion Sensor mode b) Emits a shrill sound if it's moved after that c) Sound measured at only ~85dB and not the advertised 130dB Pros: + WiFi detector works, can adjust sensitivity + WiFi detector can switch between alarm and vibrate mode + Movement alarm works (but not that loud - see below) + Camera detector mode can work but you have to be looking directly into the camera to find it Cons: - WiFi detector sensitivity will make it difficult to find items - even at full sensitivity you have to be within a few feet of the item for it to detect WiFi emitters (tested with multiple WiFi Access Points) - Alarm is nowhere near the stated 130dB. Measured at ~85dB 2" from speaker. - Not the easiest to use. Switching between modes requires use of different buttons at different times (for example, to get to Camera Detector mode, you switch it to Motion Detector mode then a quick press of the "Ok" button to change to Camera Detector modes). Note that at full WiFi sensitivity it will detect the occasional pulses from your own phone so don't look for WiFi with your phone on you. It REALLY picks up hidden devices. My neighbors downstairs are using a WiFi detector on my service. (It shows up on my WiFi list). This device blinked like crazy ,when it picked up where they had their device. I walked all around my apartment, then suddenly, it went crazy near my TV. My router was on the other side of my TV. This device detected their device downstairs on their wall or on their ceiling, stealing my WiFi signal! Truly! Happy to have gotten this device. Read more
