I'll be honest And say I did not expect much from a device in this price range. I expected it to be more gimmick than useful. That said, It actually was able to find almost every device that I tested it against in my house. I tested it against Wi-fi cameras and other listening devices. My testing against wi-fi cameras was the most successful. It was able to pick up the radio transmissions and get me in the ballpark of their location quite quickly. I tried it against 3 different manufacturers cameras during that test and it found them all. This test would be useless against hardwired cameras, obviously. I then tested the viewfinder for trying to find tiny lenses of hardwired pinhole cameras And it can do that but it does take quite a bit of practice to know exactly what you're looking for. My one real complaint there is that the clear red plastic they used for the viewfinder is really cheap and the surface is very wavy which distorts the image. For a few extra cents they could have used something without this issue. The distortion can make it hard to discern if that's a camera lens you see or a weird highlight in the wavy plastic. You can see in the image I uploaded how bad that is. This will help you find more obvious surveillance devices but not every possible threat would be accounted for. It could add a bit of peace of mind in that AirBnB but don't rely on it to protect you if it's life and death. 3-Star Review: SKYCLOAK Hidden Camera Detectors - 2026 Portable Hidden Camera Detector & Bug Detector, Travel Gadgets for Privacy, Hotel Safety Devices, Tech Gadgets, Spy Camera, Home Office & Trips Tested this in two environments and got very different results - neither great. In my home office, which is full of gadgets, routers, monitors, and smart devices, the thing lit up constantly. Too much noise to tell what's an actual hidden camera and what's just your WiFi router doing its job. Not very helpful when every corner of the room triggers it. Took it to a cleaner environment to give it a fair shot, and even on the highest sensitivity setting it needed to be within about a foot of the source to pick anything up. So you'd basically have to already know where to look, which defeats the purpose of a sweep device. The camera detection side relies on catching lens reflections - you look through the viewfinder while the red LEDs flash, and any camera lens should glint back at you. In theory. In practice, you need to be nearly perpendicular to the plane of the lens to catch the reflection, and even then there are plenty of false positives from any shiny or reflective surface in the room. It's a common problem with detectors in this price range - they're either too sensitive and flag everything, or not sensitive enough to catch anything unless you're practically on top of it. For real counter-surveillance work you'd need to spend considerably more on professional-grade equipment. This one gives you the idea of what these devices do, but don't expect it to reliably find a well-hidden camera in an Airbnb from across the room. For $20, it's about what you'd expect. If it gives you peace of mind doing a quick sweep of a hotel room, fine. But I wouldn't rely on it as a serious security tool. Read more
