I definitely needed to read the instructions to understand how to use this and I did some tests around my house. I have so many wireless devices that it wasn't particularly useful. I had to turn off a lot of stuff to track a test device. Using it while I travel where I can't control all the noise may be a challenge. I don't know about finding camera lenses. Essentially you're looking for a red dot reflection in a darkened room through a small red filtered viewing pane. It works best when you're looking at the camera straight on. But if you don't know where the camera is you don't really know where straight on is going to be. So I think you have to sweep kind of carefully the surfaces. You can just stand in one place and look around and be confident you'd find a camera in your field of view. But it's something. It has some other modes like an anti-theft / disturb feature. But I'll never remember the instructions on how to use it and turn it off. It's a nice value add, but doesn't seem like it has a practical use in my life or the situations is supposed to be used in. The instructions are good enough, I wish the device were a little more intuitive to use without them. I'm not going to use this often enough to remember them and I'll have to consult them each time. I've yet to actually take it on vacation and ideally it won't find anything, because I'd like to think I'm staying at trustworthy places, so it's hard to say how useful it ultimately will be. I aimed it at the security camera that I have installed in my home, toward the baby monitor that I use, and toward a little recording device that I use for meetings. My conviction that it truly reacts when it comes across active equipment in its vicinity was bolstered by the fact that the detector exhibited a distinct reaction in the vicinity of every single one of them. The thing that I grew to like the most was the viewfinder function. It was when I lowered the lights and examined the footage that I observed the reflected spots from the camera lenses become more noticeable in a manner that they would never have been seen by my eyes alone. Observing how familiar gadgets, like my cell phone and the camera on my laptop, looked via the finder provided me with insight into what I should expect when I explored previously unknown locations using this method.
