Should have had a beta, still a great game.

If you read a bunch of reviews, you'll learn that sales exceeded expectations, and there were not enough dedicated servers. You'll also learn it's hard to play a multiplayer match. You might learn the gameplay sucks, or the graphics are awful, or the campaign is short. Well.... The campaign is short, could have used more levels and more videos etc. Still a good starting story, needs a free campaign level or two. Multiplayer is sweet, finally, as of March 22nd, the game is completely playable. No more trouble doing anything, except joining a friend or hosting a large party(well you can if you just want to talk). The game is fun, better than Call of Duty Black Ops. More to do, vehicles, drones, special weapons, infantry perks(better than COD also). It's a good game, don't let the pissy people who don't understand the gaming industry turn you off. WHEN A GAME FIRST COMES OUT, MULTIPLAYER ISN'T ALWAYS THE BEST, ESPECIALLY WHEN USING DEDICATED SERVERS! BTW, there are a lot of bugs still, you'll probably want to wait a month to purchase. I would appreciate like a ten or twenty dollar credit, or free pass to a map pack, for being a beta tester. I mean seriously, when the game gets past it's "beta" phase, it'll be 5 star. I want to get paid to be a beta tester. <400,000 beta testers... jeeze.... Read more

Hardcore, Singleplayer Refreshing, Multiplayer

s1lverFoXβ€”March 16, 2011

+Story done well, certainly believable and more thought out than the sporadic events that other shooters have given us lately. +Difficulty is high, played through on hard, equivalent to cod veteran, but there is one setting higher still. +News articles are fun to find(and read), they serve as the hidden item during campaign, only found 16/61 and i was looking for them :) +Story is riveting and RAW. Be prepared to see some of the effects of communism. This game is rated mature for good reason. -Occasionally the AI (Connor) blocks you, but the enemy AI more than makes up for that. +The multiplayer is fantastic, huge open areas to narrow shootouts all exist in perfect harmony. +Tons of unlocks and reasons to progress. +The BP system solves so many problems with killstreak rewards. +The innovations in multiplayer are welcome, BP, overall map view as you spawn, Battle Commander, killkam showing full path to player. +Battle Commander deserves special recognition for solving people complaining about campers. Rewards happen for killstreaks but you are also pointed out to enemy team until you are killed, futhermore they reward you for hunting the guy on the killsteak. So people are seeking out those who hide and this balances out the formula. +Dedicated servers allow for great hit detection. -CoD lovers need not apply, my gf loves CoD but for some reason hates homefront so far, i think there is a bias around this, i am basing this off friends and the reviews i read online In closing, if you are looking for something that is fun and refreshing for multiplayer then homefront is for you. I hope THQ and KAOS read this review...

So these are the same people who brought us Frontlines: Fuels of War which, in my opinion, was a fantastic and completely underappreciated FPS. I was a big fan of Frontlines. Unfortunately this game came out a couple months after COD4 Modern Warfare and was completely shrouded by that blockbuster success, so not as many people even bothered to see what Frontlines had to offer. All that to say, I thought I might be more excited about the release of HOMEFRONT than anyone in the country. This looked to be the direct heir to Frontlines' innovative concept and gameplay. I thought this game would be everything that Frontlines was "supposed to be". Surely people will now see what I was talking about when I tried to explain why I enjoyed Frontlines so much. I was wrong. The one thing that Homefront has going for it is its intriguing setting. The idea of having a FPS take place in a Korean-occupied future America, fighting guerilla warfare among our own families and neighborhoods is brilliant. HOWEVER, it couldn't have been more squandered. They took this gem of an idea... and did nothing with it. The story was nothing special - "uh oh, the Koreans are closing in on the resistance, let's kill 'em". The most un-creative person in the world could have come up with a similar story if he was given this setting to work with. I watched every video that came out with the game creators talking about how creative the setting of this game was - but I guess they thought that would be enough. Everything else fell along the wayside. THESE ARE THE GOOD THINGS: -There are still drones (one the best parts of Frontlines) but I dont know... they don't seem as fun to use in this game. Maybe they're easier to destroy. Maybe they're harder to control. Not sure. Maybe we've seen them in other games now and Homefront didn't bring anything unique to the table. -There are similar game modes to Frontlines - like "frontlines" - capturing all the territories then pushing the frontline forward. Over all, the gameplay just doesn't seem as snappy and responsive. I didn't have very much fun because I didn't really enjoy how I moved, sprinted, aimed, and fired weapons. I know in real life its not "easy" to be accurate shooting weapons, but in other games I pride myself on being accurate and consistent. In this game I felt like accuracy was impossible. You could should in a general direction and "try" to be accurate and eventually someone might die, but I couldn't be precise - even with aim assist on. My verdict is that this game might be fun for some people for a short time - but ultimately very forgettable. I'm extremely disappointed. I expected so much more from my friends who brought me Frontlines: Fuels of War, which sadly, I think I still enjoy more than Homefront. Although the setting was captivating, Homefront's campaign was astonishingly short and unimaginative, my character was a mystery, the level design was uninspired, the gameplay mechanics were wonky, the multiplayer was unrewarding, the graphics were way below par and now I am unlikely to ever be fooled by THQ and KAOS into preordering a game again. Live and learn. Read more
