The clock radio I ordered before was incredibly difficult to set and operate so I returned it and got this one. This is user friendly and intuitive. Quite a few settings, but they are easy to achieve with instructions that are clear and well-written. Time/date was easy to set and the clock numbers are nice and big - with several settings for brightness. You also have a choice of 3 colors for the numbers. Tuning the radio was a breeze as was setting a particular station (you can pre-set 4 different stations). This is AM or FM and whatever you choose, you can adjust volume. Reception of FM and AM stations, in my home, is really good with this little radio. And, speaking of little ... this has a very small footprint in case you have a space problem. I will keep the instructions handy until I learn the different button combinations for different settings, but that shouldn't take long. Note: I have NOT tried the alarm because that's not what I got this radio for. I wanted it for the time - and for the radio - and that's all. These are neat little units, very compact for their many functions. They don't take up a lot of space on your nightstand , which is nice . The controls are relatively easy to manage, but a once thru of the manual is very helpful and keeping it handy is advised. Good value for the money, nice looks. Being able to change the display color AND intensity is very nice. All in all, a solid , compact clock radio that is supposed to automatically reset itself after power interruptions. That remains to be seen, but the rest of the clock seems good. Read more
My 40+ year old Pencrest AM/FM clock radio finally crapped out and I needed to find a replacement. Not many to be found in department stores these days so I ordered this from Amazon. When the box arrived before I initially opened it, I was disappointed as it was super-small. But after I put batteries in and plugged it in (I just put in batteries to get through a power outage), I was truly amazed. First, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to read the time because the radio was so small, but actually the numbers were about 2x the size of my old radio, and a nice bonus, you could change the color between red, green, and blue and they were far more readable than my old radio. Then it had about a two foot length of wire hanging out the radio, curious how this would work I turned on the FM radio, here the limitations of the size was an issue in terms of audio quality, no bass because it only had about a 2 inch speaker. But otherwise the audio is crisp and clear. Aside from the display the receiver is another area where this machine really shines, it's FM sensitivity was AS GOOD as a Sony Earth Orbiter communications receiver I used to have and it's selectivity considerably better and that was a $300 receiver. I can receive Vancouver BC from just 13 miles north of Downtown Seattle fine. It's operation on batteries was same as AC, it continued to keep accurate time (my old Alarm clock drifted terribly when not on AC), and the radio, alarm, etc, still worked on batteries, where my old alarm the battery only kept the clock working. I am truly amazed at all the functionality they managed to jam in such a small case. Wish it either could accommodate a larger speaker or had a jack for an external speaker because the lack of bass is really the only thing I can fault on this unit, otherwise 100% excellent for a very budget radio. the clock is neat and has the basics, good volume, color , neat size, but the radio frequency does work offer the best reception, the absolute drawback for me is the clock will after a few seconds, the whole illuminated face gets dark, you have to press the knob to see the time...ahhh!!! come on you kidding me, if i knew that was the case i would not have purchased it.. it is totally useless to me because i need to see the time always and from across wherever i put it, i don't want to have to press any button, i tried to find out if there is any way to keep this illuminated but no luck... i was wondering if that is the way it works or if it is defective... not sure but for this price it turns out to be useless to meet, can't send back because of where i am, it would cost a lot in shipping, so it is in its box... update...buying something and not getting the use you required does not make sense... I cant give this a higher rating regardless of whatever positives i mention.. UPDATE: I contacted the seller about my issues, I thought maybe I was doing something wrong but with pretty much easy directions I was wondering how I missed it, anyway, I got on to some guy, Mike, he directed me as to what to do, but the clock had the same issue and I was doing everything correctly. To make a long story short, I was sent another clock and as the clocks perfectly, just the way i wanted soooo kool!!!! i love it!. I really want to commend this seller, I wish all sellers displayed this sort of integrity. to b quite honest I was never expecting a replacement or anything i just sum it up to my loss as I said returning it would have cost me a lot. I did have to pay to collect the replacement but i did not mind. By the way, let me also clear the air in case anyone has any doubts, the seller Never asked me to change my reviews or anything of that nature. The clock does exactly what was described so it was only just, that I gave the true review. Big display lights , portable, light weight, battery backup, excellent volume, etc. However, I would have definitely appreciated if the clock had an internal FM antenna because depending on where or how you position the clock you may need to move the antenna to suit, to get the best reception.
