I'm not going back...
...to ceramic bowls with aluminum foil. Because of the metal charcoal holder, it takes a couple minutes before it warms up, compared to putting charcoal on aluminum foil. But the tradeoffs are worth it. It gives a more even heat and you can control it (cover on or off). Cover on seems to keep the charcoal alive longer without affecting heat. Silicone bowl is nice because it's unbreakable and dishwasher safe. It does tend to retain some smell of the hookah. I think a purist might want to have a different bowl for each different flavor they use, but personally I think I can get away with it as the retention is minimal, especially compared to an unglazed ceramic bowl, which is what I was using before. Good hmd and bowl. It's getting a lot of use. The hmd works well. Keep the heat in a decent usable zone. I like the fact that you can just put it on the cone without a grommet. Fit is very nice, and is showing itself to be very tough. Read more

Definitely an upgrade from the clay!
I like this thing, fits the silicone bowl perfectly. You will absolutely always need 2 coals or it won’t get enough heat. Entire bowl does get hot so I keep a oven mit handy in case I wanna get to the shisha, you can sit a unlit coal in there when the other is going out and it’ll light it.. will burn your shisha on the bottom so don’t over pack.
