Best knife sharpener available

Satisfied CustomerNovember 9, 2024✓ Verified purchase

I have spent hundreds of dollars on other sharpening systems- The Horl is by far the easiest to use and WILL give you razor sharp knives. I purchased the additional strop with 3000 and 6000 grit stones, as well as the additional Kagami 10,000 ultra fine stone. Yes, this is an expensive setup, but it is worth every penny. Don’t settle for the cheaper imitations- this is the original- the real deal. You will not regret buying Horl. Read more

Worth the extra money

Chad WiltAugust 11, 2024✓ Verified purchase

I had always used sharpening stones, but always for pocket, survival & tactical knives. I didn't want to use the same stones (due to use of oil) on kitchen knives and also the blades usually get scratched up. I could never figure out how to use a rasp properly, so I wanted something easier for kitchen knives. I had looked at Tumblr and then I saw Horl. The base units were similar, but Horl was more expensive. However, only Horl let you change the stones to make a finer point. Which having used multiple sharpening stones in the past, I knew this to be more effective. So I bought the The base unit with n extra sharpening stone package. Yes expensive but in the end worth the money. Now my kitchen knives had never really been sharpened for over 20 years. My favorite knife was dull as could be. Truthfully it took a 100 or so passes with the base diamond course stone to get an edge on it. Honestly a 100 passes with this system is faster than 20 passes using a basic sharpening stone. There was no guess work on the angle and keeping that correct. But eventually I had a decent edge. Yes it could cut paper, but not cleanly in my opinion. A good enough edge I would call this and probably would have been the best I did with a Tumblr. But with the Horl I had an additional 2 more stones to use. I made another 50 or so passes with each of the other stones. It did produce a nicer, finer edge with each stone. I mean this is sharper than what it came out of the box as. Again yes it is expensive to buy all this from Horl, but it does much better job than what you would end up with using Tumblr. Tumblr only has the diamond course stone, only Horl gives you options for better stones to use. Read more

As Easy As They Say

I have a lot of knives. I used to set aside half a day once a month to stone and strop all the ones I use in my kitchen and shop. This roller gives me a more consistent edge with less effort. I still do the final work with a strop, but this roller gets me there faster and with less effort. Read more

Gets'em sharp.

FrankMarch 20, 2024✓ Verified purchase

First off, easy to use and gets the knives sharp. For beginners, this is a very forgiving knife sharpening technique. You'll certainly NOT over grind any particular spot because the speed was set too high for that 220 grit mini-belt (*cough newbie on the Worksharp *cough cough). Certainly watch the videos especially when sharpening the tip...you kind of roll into it. This can be mitigated by putting the magnetic holder closer to the tip, but then you'll need to brace the heel more. Meh, you'll find a happy medium as you continue sharpening. This is a sharpener, so you won't be grinding new edges to knives someone used to chop coconuts in half...well, I got that mini belt sander for that. Read more

Best quality.

Joseph R PotterJune 14, 2024✓ Verified purchase

Yes you do pay a little more. But the quality is incredible. I love the leather strap. Truthfully the basic kit is probably your best bet. The leather strap is great. The other two wheels are really more about finesse and fine polish. It takes a bit to get the angles right. The diamond starts out really cutting down material. But then it gets clogged up. It still works fantastic but there is a break in period. I am super impressed with the sharpener itself because of how heavy and how smooth the ball bearings work. Also you can change the wheels they have 1/8 of an inch thick steel backing with an eighth of an inch of aggregate material. That should last a lifetime. Absolutely love their products Read more
