I Cannot Rave About This Curling Iron Enough!
I have straight, fine hair that is thin to slightly medium in thickness, and crazy easy to tangle. Thanks to the Spanish side of my family I also have these dark coarse strands that like to curl and frizz, and never lie down. And I truly don't like straightening my hair, as, for starters, I hate the slick down look on me as it takes the volume out of my hair, and secondly, I always still have strands sticking up thanks to those coarse hairs. I much rather curl my hair, and because of this, I have went through some curling irons. I did have a gold barrel curling iron that was 1 1/2 inches when my hair was a little bit longer, and I did love that one as it gave me these huge curls that I framed my face with. But because the curls were so big, I literally parted my hair in fours, and curled those, then picked up a little bit of the top layer, again in four sections, and curled that. But I would place it all in the front, as it looked weird with two big roped curls in the back. The last picture I posted in green is reference to that style, and using a 1 1/2 inch barrel. Now that curling iron was great, but this Hot Tools literally blows it to pieces. I had issues where my old one would somehow get stuck in my hair (no lie, and because I curled my hair almost every day back then it's how I fried the ends.) And due to the large barrel I could not for the life of me get my hair to go behind my shoulders instead of sitting in the front because it didn't look right. Now the curling iron I got from Hot Tools is a 1 inch barrel, which means smaller curls, and this worked perfectly for what I wanted! I do start with a heat product (I started using an anti-aging heat product from Sephora (Caviar) that doesn't weigh my hair down horribly) on my wet hair, and after drying it I'll put half of my hair up, and curl in sections using the Hot Tools curling iron. This curling iron gets hot fast, which I love as I'm normally rushing in the morning to get ready for work. It does have an on and off button (and it doesn't turn itself off after a while, which sucked a bit for me as I'm always double checking to make sure I turned it off) on one side, and on the opposite side it has the temperature range along with a small light letting you know it's on. The cord is a swivel type that allows you to turn the barrel more easily, but I will admit, I still have to smooth the cord out every time I'm done with the curling iron and perhaps once while I'm using it. That being said, it is very easy to use; however, I have hit the little sliding switch on the temperature area a few times with my finger when I'm curling my hair. Not all the time, and not enough times to justify lowering a star. I do love that it is a swivel and not an actual button as I seem to always press those by mistake. After parting my hair in sections, and using the curling iron, I can easily toss my hair back, give it a shake or too, add a little hairspray, and I'm good to go! The curls last all day, which is huge for my hair that doesn't like to hold a curl! And even the next day, after sleeping all over my hair, if my underside didn't tangle so much I could easily fluff it out, and go! But at the nape of my neck it's like a tangled birds nest after I sleep, so the top layer is fine, but I have to brush the bottom layer which poofs it out like a frizzed mess. If I could somehow keep the bottom layer from turning into a massive snarl, I could easily fluff it for the next day, and still have my curls. I'm more than likely going to buy a 1 1/2 inch barrel for if I want to do big curls, but it is definitely going to be from this brand! Read more
