The Sawyer filter is very good at filtering out pathogens, but chemicals and metals/minerals in solution pass right through. So this activated carbon filter fills the bill well to filter much of those things out. I put it upstream of the Sawyer since it also filters particles down to 5 microns or so reducing the load on the Sawyer filter. I use push-in tubing connectors on the carbon filter for quick connections. Read more

Hydronix Coconut filter for sweeter tasting water

I am using this as a finish filter on a Reverse Osmosis system. Makes the water taste better "a Little bit sweeter". Be sure to flush the filter before use as is says on the filter! Some dark charcoal power will exit the filter when you flush. I used RO water to flush at 40 psi and only flushed for a few minutes or about 4 gallons of water into a white bucket. {used this water to water house plants}. I tested the RO water before rinsing the filter with a TDS meter, and when the water coming out of the filter during flushing got close to the first TDS reading I stopped flushing. This filter does not have quick connects. I bought the connectors at Lowes 1/4" NPTF to 3/8" quick connect. If unsure just put the filter in a baggie and take it to you local hardware , ACE, HD or lowes. You can buy this filter here on Amazon with quick connects but it is about $6.00 more. I chose this one so I can just change the fitting to a new filter when I need one and I will be saving money! also, this way you can get the fittings you want straight or elbows, and the fitting size you want. I own one of the US Water Systems all American Made 5 filter Reverse Osmosis systems. While doing my routine filter changing, I accidentally over tightened the final new filter and the elbow broke off inside of it. I was in a pinch because we use our RO system daily, and I had to get replacement parts pretty much the same day. Home Depot and Lowe's didn't have any of these types of filters, but Lowe's did have elbow replacements in stock. So I got the elbow at Lowe's, and Amazon delivered this filter that day. I installed everything and my RO system has been running like normal with zero difference in taste or quality. I would highly recommend this filter if you're in a pinch and need one quickly.
