When the company sold, the product seemed to be the same, but instead of competing in the ever-growing line of premium pet foods sold at pet supply stores, they reduced there prices and became a top of the market grocery brand. The price is reasonable enough that I can use it to feed the feral cats I’ve TNRed. After using good to trap them to be neutered and vaccinated, they guilted me into feeding them 2x per day. Even though this is marketed as cat food, it has become the absolute best choice for my hedgehogs. I’ve tried several brands over the years, including foods specifically made for hedgehogs, but none have given me the same results as this one. Since switching to IAMS, they’ve stayed healthier overall, with excellent digestion and more consistent energy levels. One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed is in their digestion — their poop is perfectly formed and easy to clean up, not sticky, watery, or too hard like it was with other foods. That alone makes a huge difference for their comfort and health. Their skin and coats also look healthier, and I’ve noticed improved activity and appetite since making the switch. Another unexpected bonus is that even my dogs love this food! They often sneak a few bites when I’m feeding the hedgehogs, which says a lot about the quality and taste. My two cats are big fans of Iams — based on their enthusiastic feedback, which roughly translates to "meow, mow mow mow meeow," I’m guessing the taste is solid. They devour it like I forgot to feed them for a week (I didn’t). But here’s the gripe: the bag. There is no easy way to open it. Scissors? Nope. Utility knife? Still awkward. Precision engineering? Forget it. Every method I’ve tried either rips weird, sprays kibble like confetti, or leaves me with a jagged hole that’s impossible to pour from. I’ve resorted to dumping it into a separate container just to avoid daily rage. Food itself? Great. Cats are happy, healthy, shiny, and slightly less judgmental than usual.
