I'm not sure what I was expecting from this little knife sharpener. The design is cute, shaped like a vanilla ice cream cone. There is a groove with a V-shaped grinder. I'm not sure what it's made of using sight alone, since it's too deeply buried in the sharpener to feel it. That, I'm sure, is for safety reasons, and that's fine. The non-slip base is, well, it's non-existent. I couldn't get it to attach to my counter, or even a glass-top stove, with any kind of stability, and it certainly wouldn't withstand a knife being pulled through it. As far as the actual sharpening goes? If your knife blade is already honed and smooth, you'll have little problem pulling it through the groove. If you have a blade with any amount of pitting, however, it's a struggle. I've never had a sharpener like this before, so I'm not sure if any device like this will sharpen or hone a pitted blade. That's likely better left for the professionals. My takeaway? It works fine. My mom's sewing shears have a second life, as do my kitchen shears. I sharpened my large carver, and it cuts better than it did beforehand. What I don't like is its lack of stability. It strikes me as being dangerous to an extent, if you're dealing with sharp blades and a knife sharpener that won't stay put. I'm glad I finally have a knife sharpener, but I wish the suction cup on the base was a bit stronger. Read more

I loved the ease of use so much that I had to buy another for my mom who was watching me use it. The only thing is the suction cup is hard to attach to a counter unless it is wet a bit. But it sharpens perfectly and works great for multiple types of knives or scissors. Read more

The media could not be loaded. The unique ice cream shape of this knife sharpener certainly caught my eye—it's cute and compact, living up to the product description's claims about its design. However, my positive impression ends there. The feature the description boasts about—the "Strong Suction Base"—is completely nonfunctional and useless. Why bother calling it a suction cup when it simply doesn't suction? This is a major flaw that creates a serious safety risk. Because the base doesn't stick, the sharpener glides and moves around the countertop while you're trying to use it. This makes sharpening extremely unsafe and dangerous. Instead of the advertised "effortless sharpening," you are forced to firmly hold onto the sharpener with one hand just to keep it from slipping. It's a shame because, despite the design flaw, the dual-grit coarse and fine ceramic slots seem to do a decent job of sharpening the knife. Overall, I am very disappointed. A knife sharpener that doesn't stay in place is a safety hazard, completely undermining the benefit of its sharpening ability. This product is not recommended until the manufacturer fixes the defective suction base. Read more

This is a cute item, easy to hold in the palm of your hand or set on the counter. The base is supposed to be a suction cup, but I couldn't get that part to work so I also didn't use the "small shovel" to release it from the surface. I'm new to knife sharpening but this seemed to restore some of an edge. The sharpening part is located roughly in the center of the cupcake, so my smaller paring knives couldn't be sharpened the full length of the blade. If the top of the cupcake was shorter or the sharpener was located closer to an edge, it would have worked better. It's cute, fun, and hard to lose in the junk drawer, so for the price I think it's worth it as long as you only have longer knives to sharpen. Read more

The media could not be loaded. It's cute, portable, and will quickly sharpen the knife. That's about all that's good about it. The scoop doesn't come out of it, the suction is nonexistent, and I've tried multiple surfaces, and it's dangerous because of that. There's no great way to safely and comfortable hold the knife sharpener, which you have to hold it because it slides around. I don't recommend this at all, spend a few extra bucks for a real sharpener. For the money, it makes a cute decoration, but is terrible at safely doing its job. Barely acceptable value for money. I don’t know why I needed this but I didn’t hesitate when I saw it. I wasn’t wrong, I needed this. It’s so cute, it’s ridiculously borderline criminally cute and I love it. The first thing I did was sharpen my beloved “tomato knife” which is what we call the knife I only use for tomatoes and sometimes (rarely) strawberries. After pushing through the “v” a little bit my knife was so sharp again! I know these wear out after a while but it’s so affordable I’ll happily buy another. Read more

There is a suction cup at the bottom of this thing, and when it is wet and twisted it should stick to my granite countertop. It does not (or more accurately it does slightly, not at all enough to stay in place). That makes the removing device or ‘shovel’ irrelevant which is good because that is permanently glued in place and useless. I am giving it 3 stars because it is inexpensive and I was able to sharpen a knife while holding it in my other hand, which isn’t safe. In my photo I try to show the tiny metal shavings which look like gray streaks; remember to wash the knife after sharpening. Read more

Now you aren't gonna get the sharpness from a rolling sharpener but you will need a quick tune up on your knives. I mainly use it for my pocket knives, the suction cup on it is strong and I get a decent edge for what it is. Would recommend for light knife sharpening Read more
