Great Option for Thick Hair and Noise Sensitivity
The media could not be loaded. I usually like to wash my hair in the evening and let it air dry overnight, but lately we've been having unusually cold weather. I walk to work, and on a few mornings I ended up with ice crystals in my hair by the time I arrive. I've struggled to use blow dryers because they're usually too loud and irritating. I started looking for a new blow dryer that would be a little quieter. I ordered this "XO High-Performance Ionic Hair Dryer – Fast Drying, Less Heat Damage, Self-Cleaning Mode, Negative Ion Technology, Instant Cool Shot – Lightweight & Quiet (Rose Gold/Pink)" by Tri Technology. The box and the dryer both arrived with plastic seals to remove. The dryer comes with its own storage bag and two attachments. The diffuser and smoothing nozzle both attach using magnets. Once attached, the tools feel secure and I haven't had any issues with them shifting or falling off. The cord feels secure where it enters the dryer. I've noticed that with many hair tools, spinning cords can be a failure point. This dryer has a GFCI plug and it works correctly. The air intake pulls in from the bottom of the handle. It has two speeds and four temperature settings. Lights on the back of the dryer indicate the temperature. I have very thick hair that's almost to my waist, so it usually takes a long time to dry. It's normally a 25 to 30 minute chore and I end up boiling hot once I'm finished. I'd read that ionic dryers can dry hair faster and with less heat, which sounded great to me. My hair is between 1C and 2A and has a little natural body. I can usually lean into adding more volume with a curler or I can straighten and smooth it. I've had this dryer for about a week and have used it about five times. When I use it to dry my hair from wet to dry, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes, and I haven't ended up covered in sweat once I'm finished. When I use it to finish off overnight air drying, I can take my hair from damp to dry in only 3 to 4 minutes and get it smoothed out in the process. Despite the air being very dry, I haven't noticed an increase in static or flyaways. Most hair dryers are really too loud and have an irritating high-pitched mechanical sound that grates on my nerves. This dryer is much quieter. It mostly sounds like rushing air. I don't notice the tinny whining I've experienced with other blow dryers. This quieter volume is much more comfortable for me and doesn't leave me feeling mentally fatigued. The blow dryer is comfortable to hold. It's not heavy and doesn't leave my arm feeling tired. It feels well made. Overall, I really like this blow dryer. It is a major upgrade from dryers I've used in the past. At the time of my order, it cost $187, which makes it a more expensive option. I haven't had the opportunity to use a premium dryer before, so I can't make a true high-end comparison. It definitely outperforms any of the dryers I've used in the $40 price range. Depending on your needs and budget, this could be a good value if you also struggle with typical blow dryers. Read more
