So, I drink a lot of teas and matcha. I bought this because I wanted to try something that was 'super high quality'. Well, it is. Compared to other brands that are half the price, this one wins in every way. I never buy low quality teas. I'd say I get from upper mid grade, to high grade. This matcha blends so well with water, and makes a nice thick foam with a bamboo whisk or a handheld milk frother. The color is vibrant and amazing. The flavors are amazing. It really is a great matcha. When finishing the cup, hardly any 'specs' are at the bottom of the cup. Compared to other matchas, where there is usually a good amount of sedement. Some sedement doesn't bother me. But, I like that I see less. Just shows the quality. This is expensive at around 42 bucks. I use just one large bamboo scoop. I have probably drank about 15 cups so far, and I'm about half done with the powder. So, each cup is probably costing me about $1.50. Which is a bit pricey; but, it's just so good I don't mind! I admit, I will try one of this companies other offerings next (which are still high quality, just, about half the price of this one, and see how I like them compared). If you want to step your matcha game up, give this a go! Read more

Ippodo Tea has been in business for 300 years. I am lucky enough to have one of their shops here in New York. There is not much to say - the quality of their product is absolutely fantastic. This is the matcha they serve in traditional ceremonies, including the Michelin Star rated Japanese restaurant I go to. There is a tremendous amount of umami flavor, thickness, depth of texture when prepared as koicha (thick matcha). Try any other brand - I guarantee you that you will find no better. A lot of matcha out there is terrible. Bitter, astringent, hard on the stomach. I do not understand the review that claimed this "had no flavor." Either you got a bad batch, or you're not telling the truth. There is a reason they have been around for 300 years and I'm sorry there is something wrong with your tastebuds if you think that. I love the Ippodo Matchas, and this one is quite good. My favorite is Ummon, due to its rich and umami flavor, but this one is a close second. If you like ceremonial matcha, this one is worth a try. Read more

ippodo offers a decent line of average to above average teas... as far as i know, this is the top tier matcha in their lineup... preheating your chawan and using a high quality spring or mineral water is highly advised when you dabble in the higher grades of tea... a dollar extra and a few more minutes of your precious time should help elevate the overall occasion... 3 grams pushed through the strainer with around a 1/2 ounce of H20 slightly off a boil... slight whisk till i got the consistency of a runny caramel or butterscotch just off the stove... i got two sips until completion and overall this koicha is fairly neutral, working on its balancing act... it sits predominantly on the aft of the palate and quite heavily so... very nutty like a freshly opened raw cashew in terms of creaminess and tone... you do get some mild vegetal hints that linger with occasional reminders... they came across as a heavily steamed spinach and played peek a boo... the front and mid of the palate remains sorta vacant and airy... imbibed in this first thing in the morning and this tea is sitting like someone threw an anchor onto my stomach so maybe try it after a satisfying meal... this is your tea if you enjoy a smooth, creamy, straight line approach to matcha... there is nothing here in the presentation that jumps out at you or captures your senses and mind... my recommendation is do a light bowl of koicha using ippodo's grade below this... last i saw it goes for around 55 dollars for 40 grams... there are other kids on the block in this price point... This is certainly one of the best if not best tasting green tea I have ever tried before. If made right, it will certainly provide a degree of pleasant aroma and umami on your palate. Will buy more when I run out! Read more

I ordered for grandson who is curious about the world and other cultures. He chose the product. I was shocked at price and underwhelmed by the taste. I’m a tea drinker and like green tea in general but don’t understand why this was so expensive, Read more
