I really like the electronic eye feature. I have mobility problems such that a trash can with a "step on the pedal to lift the lid" mechanism doesn't work for me. Two other issues that this trash can resolved for me: 1) My cat would tug on overhanging trash bags to pull my other trash cans over. 2) My daughter stops by only every 2 weeks or so to take my trash out for me. This trash can resolved these issues because it is extra large and it works with trash bags kept entirely inside. It requires four "D" batteries to work. It has an on/off button, so I set it for "off" when I am not in the kitchen just in case my cat tries jumping on it, etc. It comes with swivel wheels to attach to the bottom, so it is easily moved although it is large. It is extremely attractive for a trash can, so it looks just fine in my kitchen although it is larger than most trash cans folks keep in their kitchens. When received, I only had to attach the wheels to the bottom of the can and install the batteries and this can was ready to go! It is working great so far. I was a bit concerned about some reviews that said the can quit working after about a year. I noticed, though, that one kind reviewer posted instructions on how to reset the opening mechanism and I am relying on his information. Just to make sure everyone knows how to reset this item, here's how once again per that kind reviewer: "turn the mechanism off; take out batteries and leave them out for six hours; replace batteries; then turn it back on." The total cost with shipping, etc. was $206. When I think about the fact that I spent over $200 for a trash can, I feel a little foolish except when I think about how well this particular trash can resolved issues for me that no others could. Also, other brands of this size are nearly as costly, but don't have the electronic eye feature. So, all in all, I'm pleased with this trash can and looking forward to many years of not having to clean up trash messes created by my cat! Read more

A few years ago, I got the 4-gallon iTouchless garbage can and it still performs great. I love it! Recently I needed a larger garbage and got the 8-gallon iTouchless garbage can. Like my first one, it came on time, in good working order. It looks and performs great. The closed lid keeps out pets and keeps the odors in. Read more

After our dog discovered the joys of dumpster diving in our bathroom garbage can, we had to get one with a lid. Pros: -Opens immediately with a wave over the sensor -Great value for money -Easy to change out bags -Keeps room neater since you're not looking at garbage every time you walk by -Hortizontal footprint is same size as normal bathroom trashcan, but larger vertical size reduces how often it needs to be emptied Cons: -None Read more

I purchased this can to replace a "Simple Human" round 8 gallon trash can. The iTouchless had a slight problem upon arrival. The lid would only open half way when used in "automatic" mode. Went right to the returns section of Amazon.com and it was resolved with new can in hand by the NEXT day!! This can works great, it holds a TON of stuff and it looks nice in a "country" kitchen. I find that the sensor is not overly sensitive. It is situated in a way that it faces up as opposed to down where it would pick up foot traffic and open. With two dogs, they do not set it off (medium sized dogs that are about 3 ft. tall). Had some family over yesterday and they all admired it and had to try it out! Get one, you will not be sorry! **UPDATE**: It's been TWO years now and the can is still going strong!! No problems whatsoever! (knock on wood!!) Read more

I thought it was going to have batteries and open by sensing because my other "Ithouchless" trash cans do. Still happy with the product, great quality and nice heavy lid stays closed, yet is easy to swing open and disposed of trash on either side. Read more

Bought this in Nov 2007, and love it. Last week (June 2009) it just stopped working correctly - didn't close; opened only when you pushed the button; otherwise a mess. Replacing batteries didn't help. Googled and called the company and they said to turn the mechanism off; take out batteries and leave them out for six hours; replace batteries; then turn it back on. Works perfectly again. Also, they said that they have a year guarantee, and if this didn't fix the problem within the year, it would still be under guarantee. Love the can -- would replace it in a heartbeat. Read more

The media could not be loaded. The modern design fits perfectly in my outdoor bar, adding a touch of elegance to the space. The stainless steel finish is attractive and smudge-proof, keeping the trash can looking clean and shiny. The swing open lid is incredibly convenient. Read more

I have bought two of these. The first lid held up for about a little over a year before it completely stopped working. The second one I bought the lid lasted about 8 months before the censors on it stopped working. No way to contact the seller either after I had purchased. Trash can is good sized but with the lid going out every year, it's not worth spending $200+ to keep buying. Read more
