So far this has been an excellent bag. I had a 2 big pocket targus bag that was fantastic for 15ish years, but been having to carry alot with me to work over past couple of years without a car. The targus was simply too small and wearing out from the load. If you need a bag with a ton of storage space, get this! I literally fit everything in my old bag in the front 2 pockets of the jansport. The main pocket i can fill with my drinks to bring with me. I carry meds and various other needed items i sometimes need while at work in my backpack now since i no longer have a car. This bag made doing so very easy, added alot of on the go storage for me, and is very versatile. You get a ton of bag for the money. The bag seams seem to be durable and well made. It can handle weight well. Its also padded on the back and straps well. Read more

Wonderfully large backpack for high school student. My son replaced a NorthFace Jester backpack with this JanSport. It holds so much more than NF. Read more

My favorite backpack with the perfect amount of compartments. I drug this thing around through all of college, when the bottom eventually wore out after 4+ years of loading it up and throwing it around I got a new one. I tried 2 other bags in the mean time, but they both disappointed me in quality, the size of the main compartment, and the ability to sort small things into different pouches. This bag is my perfect travel bag on an airplane, to a coffee shop in town, or for school. Read more

Before switching jobs and getting a clear backpack for it I bought this backpack in May 2017 (for $95), used it for about two years and still have it today! I was able to store textbooks, several notebooks, writing utensils, chargers and mobile devices, carrying cases, thin Tupperware, laptops and more without a single scratch and keep going. The zippers are fairly solid and move swiftly (though I would grip them closer to the base to better preserve them) and the lining does not catch. The bag itself is stylish with plenty of pockets and the straps were helpful with redistributing the weight. I cannot comment on the “laces” because I did not use them but they still appear strong and sturdy. Cleaning is also simple, with water and a dab of mild dish soap bordering on extraneous. Overall I recommend this bag for anyone looking for a sturdy, spacious mid-range bag that is easy to use, clean and generally maintain. I give the “JanSport Odyssey Daypack, Black” a respectable 4/5 stars! Read more

I just received my pack. I like it, even though it was not the pack I was expecting. I believe I have the newer model, I was unaware the Odyssey had been updated. It fits all my everyday carry stuff and then a LOT more room. For this review, when I refer to my model, I'm referring to the updated version that I received. I read and watched reviews, which is what I'm basing this off of. Differences that I've noticed: -The older model had a place for the hydration bladder AND a laptop. My model does not. The pouch the hydration bladder used to be is now a felt lined approximately 3" by 8" pocket. -The organization pocket has been rearranged. Not for the worse, there is a sleeve that's a perfect size for a tablet. The clip was replaced with a very small beaner. -The breathable plastic has been replaced with foam. I've been wearing it all day thus far and I really like the foam. Its very comfortable and seems to breath really well. -In reviews, people complained about the grab handle, saying its flimsy. Its not my rubber covered nylon webbingish Eddie Bauer handle (which is what I'm switching from), but it feels pretty well. This morning when I got it I carried it around for awhile and didn't seem to bother me. Con's: -This is the only con (other than expecting the above listed differences, which isn't really a bad thing) is the mesh pockets on the side. They don't fit my nalgene very well at all. It fits with some pushing, but it takes actual effort to shove it in. I was worried that it would fall out, so I made for the take up strap goes through the nalgene's loop, which works for me. Pro's: -ITS HUGE!!!!!!!! Legit. -Without being broke in, its comfortable. -Feel's durable. I've had multiple Jansport bags in the past, so I know the quality is there. I'll update this review in the next few weeks. My family and I are going on vacation (which is the reason I purchased this, to swap out for my old pack) Read more

This a great backpack, I’ve owned 2 of them. The size is great and all the pockets make sense, the hide-able waist straps are AWESOME for heavy textbook loads or a hike. I interact with the water bottle holders the most out of any feature besides maybe putting it on, and on both backpacks the holders have split apart within literal days of use. The mesh separates from the elastic cuff and makes it really hard to get bottles in and out. The more you use it the more it separates, making it harder and harder to get bottles in and out. It’s such a shame because this could’ve been a perfect backpack if the water bottle holders were not made of mesh, and it’s particularly frustrating because the mesh isn’t even elastic so there’s no reason other than cost cutting to use such a crappy material and attach it with such crappy build quality. If you use a 40 oz takeya or hydroflask (or other wide bottomed bottles) just get a different backpack because this one is so frustrating to use that it’s not worth all the other brilliant features.
