JBL Charge 3 Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker -Blue Renewed

I was a little weary of this product because I have never spent more than $40 on a portable speaker. I have had two different portable speakers (Sound Kick Soundfreaq and Photive PH-BTW55) and I have enjoyed both of them. I usually take them to the park when I go play basketball and I usually have to play them at full volume to be able to hear while I'm playing. Dribbling the basketball, hitting the rim and shoes squeaking on the floor usually compete with the sound of the speaker making it difficult to hear outside of a 10' radius. I did some extensive research on this speaker and even heard comparisons via YouTube, but that is always different than what you hear in person. I decided to bite the bullet and just buy it and man am I glad I did. The first thing that got my attention when I unpacked it was the weight and solid feeling of it. I was quite a bit heavier than I expected. After the initial charging, I immediately got chills when hitting the power button and hearing the "on" tone and the rich deep bass sound that it produced. This was just from turning it on! I grabbed my phone and connected it (which was beyond easy and fast) and went right to my library looking for the right song to hear, like a kid on Christmas morning looking for the right first present to open. Megadeth's Holy Wars...The Punishment Due was right the track. I played it and I was blown away immediately by the bass drums sounding so clear and pounding, while the guitars screamed with clarity and force. I finally understood where the extra money I spent was being put towards. My next test was to hit the basketball courts by my house. I placed the speaker where I normally do and the sound was so loud that I couldn't put it on full volume so as not to disturb the elderly couple having a picnic in the field about 75 yards away. I really recommend this to anyone who can afford it, because if you really enjoy music and use a portable speaker as much as I do, then you'll not regret spending the extra money on the JBL Charge 3! This speaker is the best at it's size. I've used the previous model (Charge 2 and 2+) and the UE Megaboom. The Charge 3 is a bit larger than the 2/2+ but is noticeably louder. I stick it into a bike bottle cage and can hear it very well, whereas the charge 2 is a little quiet. The UE Megaboom has much less bass and I've had 2 of them crap out on me within a month of use (crappy firmware, crappy battery). This is the speaker I always dreamed of. I am very hard on my gear. ~We hike way up into the Rockies to professionally dig crystals.~ This speaker is durable af. The woven outer shell is everything it should be, a shock-absorbent, thick protective layer. We dropped this bad boy down a ravene and idk that it even put a scratch on it. If someone took this apart and asked me to guess how thick of a protective shell it had, I'd guess at least 1/4" under that canvas material, based on how solid it feels when you shake it hard. ~We get really really really dirty. We require a lot of water to clean ourselves/gear at night.~ I argue these speakers are better water proofed than the claim jbl makes! So whether it's dumping our bottles of water over our heads for cooling down, or washing specimens in the creek, or washing at night we always are around a lot of splashing water. We also live in a lake beach community and take this on the floaties. No difference in performance after a lot of full-water-submersions. I even use this in the shower stall lol. ~We don't have a lot of battery life to spread for music.~ The speakers stayed on a full 21hrs the first use without any charging. I haven't tested it much since then as I haven't had a lot of chances for this to play continually for THAT long. We can plug in an old school aux headphone cord so we don't have to waste battery on bluetooth too! It does what it claims and more. I wish I was more of a tech expert on the audio capability but I will say it's the best speaker quality I've ever owned. I've also owned bose, and sony, those just don't have quite as much oomf or as full of a sound as the Charge. I feel like I'm hearing a lot more detailed noise data on the Charge that the other speakers that might not pick up on, maybe even bose. Enjoy! And don't be shy of the refurbished ones, that's what we got with the extended warranty. Be careful Amazon is sheisty and will raise the price of the warranty if you leave it in your cart too long. I cross checked on a different browser and amazons price was half what it had increased to while sitting in my cart, so pay for it immediately once it goes in the cart! Lol. Adventurers tips: grab the silicone case, this thing can get heavy while hiking to just hold onto for hours. Really nice sound and charge lasts a long time. Unfortuanately, It lasted just under a year. No longer charges so it'll end up in the landfill. What a shame you can't replace the battery.. Read more

Sounds amazing, battery lasts for a ridiculously long time. This is the second JBL charge I’ve owned, and the only reason I bought a second was because my original first gen one got stolen at work. I don’t use the battery bank to charge other devices, and I usually charge the speaker once a week and I never have to worry about it running low even after using it for multiple days in a row for hours at a time. I love my speaker and I got a smaller one previously, but because I use the speaker so much it didn't last long. I bought this one late last year for a friend and he loved it. He says it's the best gift he's ever received. So I finally broke down and bought it for myself. I love it, it arrived fast and I'm probably going to buy another one as a Christmas gift. It's a great speaker and when my friends refer to it as the 'subwoofer' you know it's loud! I love it and need to get another one! I highly recommend! Read more
