Durable, Loud, and Perfect for Golf and Outdoor Work
I recently purchased the JBL Charge 6 to use during my golf rounds and while working outside, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance! This portable Bluetooth speaker is a game-changer for anyone who needs reliable, high-quality sound in rugged outdoor conditions.Golf Course Durability: I’ve taken the Charge 6 out for multiple 18-hole rounds, and it’s held up flawlessly. The IP68 rating is no joke—this speaker is completely dustproof and can handle being splashed or even submerged in water (though I haven’t tested that far!). I’ve tossed it in my golf cart, set it on uneven terrain, and even accidentally knocked it over a few times, and it’s still kicking without a scratch. JBL claims it’s drop-proof from a meter onto concrete, and I believe it after seeing how tough this thing is. The redesigned, wider base also keeps it stable on the cart or ground, unlike my old speaker that would roll around.Sound Quality on the Course: The sound is phenomenal for a speaker this size. It’s loud enough to fill the open air of a golf course without distorting, even at high volumes. The bass is punchy, and the mids and treble are clear, making it great for playing everything from classic rock to podcasts while I’m waiting on the tee box. The JBL Portable app lets me tweak the EQ, which is nice for balancing the sound depending on the environment. I will say the “Playtime Boost” mode, which extends battery life, does cut the bass a bit, so I stick to the standard settings for music.Battery Life for Long Days: The battery life is a standout. JBL advertises up to 24 hours (28 with Playtime Boost), and while I haven’t gotten quite that long with continuous use at higher volumes, it easily lasts through a full day of golf (about 5-6 hours) and then some. I’ve also used the built-in powerbank to charge my phone on the course, which is a lifesaver when I’m tracking my score on an app. The quick-charge feature is handy too—a 10-minute charge gives about 2.5 hours of playback, perfect for when I forget to charge it overnight. Beyond golf, I’ve been using the Charge 6 while doing yard work and other outdoor projects. The detachable handle/strap is super convenient for carrying it around or hanging it on a hook in my garage. It’s survived dust, dirt, and even a sudden rain shower without missing a beat. The sound carries well over the noise of my lawnmower, and the Bluetooth 5.4 connection is rock-solid, with no dropouts even when my phone is 30-40 feet away. The only downside is that it’s not backward compatible with older JBL speakers for pairing (it uses Auracast instead of PartyBoost), which is an issue for me sometimes on the golf course when playing with buddies that have the older JBL models. I should mention that it doesn’t come with a USB-C cable, so you’ll need to use your own. This wasn't a problem for me as I have a newer Android phone that uses the same charger required for this speaker. The JBL Charge 6 is a fantastic choice for golfers and anyone who works or plays outside. Its rugged build, long battery life, and powerful sound make it perfect for the golf course or outdoor tasks. Whether I’m jamming to music between shots or keeping the vibe going while mowing the lawn, this speaker delivers. Highly recommend Read more
