I find it to be in the "sweet spot" of Bluetooth portable speakers. JBL ROCKS!!
BIG fan of the JBL products. Yes, they have had their ups and downs over the years. I actually sold JBL products in the mid 90s at an independent Car and Home Audio/Video store. (Sometimes confused with JL audio in the Car Audio market.) I was not big into JBL products after leaving that job simply because I was not longer in to Car and Home Audio/Video. I later rediscovered their products as Bluetooth speakers started to become "a thing". Initially I tried a LOT of different Bluetooth speakers. I kept coming back to the JBL speakers because they are sturdy, they have longer battery life, the quality of sound is just better than others that are less expensive and the same size. They sink well with Bluetooth devices. I mentioned batter life. It is one thing to consider how long a battery stays charged, which JBL speakers do. BUT, buyers need to also be aware that over time these rechargeable batteries WILL wear out. The speakers have a life expectancy. This is a factor a lot don't think about. I have found the JBL batteries to have a long life expectancy. I have some of the first I ever purchased and they are still going strong. Some of the less expensive speakers I purchased stopped charging long ago. I also really like when they introduced the pairing feature among the speakers. I was pretty disappointed when they updated this and they didn't work with the older speakers I had, but I have come to accept that as "it was what it was" and moved on. I find that the Charge is in the "sweet spot" for me. It has good quality sound with just that little extra bass than the Flips, not too much bigger for a portable speaker, and at a decent price point if you keep an eye on when they are on sale (often just after the new models have come out). I have considered the Boombox, but for the price it just isn't right for me. Last thing, this particular model came with the Silicone Sleeve for carrying it. I got this particular one for my daughter, but she doesn't use the sleeve. She really likes the color and thinks the sleeve detracts from that. Not a big issue because she just used it in her room and isn't carrying it around a lot. I grabbed the sleeve and now use it on one of my Charge speakers. I hope this was helpful for some.
