I'm a person that needs to have a solid bluetooth speaker. I have a couple small speakers that are good enough for small rooms. If I'm outdoors then I don't particularly enjoy my speakers because they just get drowned out so easily by things like cars driving by my house and the sound is somewhat thin because there's just not enough power driving the low end. That's why I just went for a product that was meant to deliver. The Xtreme is a great speaker with a couple cool extras. The carrying strap that hooks onto the speaker unit is a great idea and helps keep it out of your hands if you need to bring it along but have nowhere to put it while you're on the go. The battery life seems to be about as advertised. I rarely play this thing at just 50% so I don't quite see that 15 hour battery life advertisement but that's to be expected when you play at 70% or a little more fairly often. I like the speaker. Great design met with solid audio performance. It doesn't sound like it has some really deep, thunderous bass but it gets pretty loud and the sound is full for such a compact speaker. No, it's not as small as a JBL Flip or a SoundCore Pro which are better suited for the corner of your desk or a picnic table but it's not obnoxiously large like the LG PX7, which takes up more space because of its handlebar design. This is a little more svelte than something like that. The Sony XB41 probably has a little better bass performance but my understanding is that there is a bit of a squash of the vocal EQ range as a result and that the speaker is better suited for bassheads than someone that likes just about anything else that isn't extremely bass heavy. Still, the Xtreme does a great job of being a solid speaker all around. I really wanted to get the JBL Boombox because I demoed that speaker at Best Buy and it was significant to behold at 50% volume. The Xtreme gets loud but not as loud or as full-sounding as the Boombox but it is also nearly $200 more expensive brand new right now so the value isn't really all that great. If you want something that can at least play in the performance range of a Boombox-like speaker but don't want to spend the $300+ then the Xtreme is perhaps the speaker to go with, especially if you find it on sale. This things SLAPS for it's size and produces clear, crisp sound. I was slightly hesitant to buy the refurbished model and had heard reviews bashing on the battery life or a couple other negative ratings relating to defects, however, decided to pull the trigger and save $50 or so bucks. Cannot detect any defects or differentiate between a brand new speaker. Battery life is solid I've charged it a couple times but I feel like it gets 5 hours BLAPPING it (aka Project X circa 2010 rave status SLAPS) and probably 8 or more hours if you keep it calm and easy music - honestly haven't paid attention though could be way longer... point is, battery is not an issue (for my particular item). This baby is good for anything from ripping shots of patron down like an absolute savage to Kendrick Lamar, to playing soft classical Bach playlists running Bloomberg table interfaces and calculating expense ratios.... absolute FIRE!!! This unit is ALL that and more definitely puts out a huge sound, room filling sound, brought it into the office and jaws dropped literally, I was a rolling DJ, I purchased this to actually keep in my golf cart, it will do that and more, GREAT JOB JBL!!! you won't be disappointed its big, actually bigger than an NFL football and has some serious weight to it, I have not seen anything close to this, it is somewhat one directional, i.e. if you are behind the unit the sound is not the same, but if you put it against a wall it will definitely fill the room. Battery life is crazy, this replaced by Bose you would need 3-4 Bose to make the same sound this has and it still wouldn't be as loud, got it for $189, certified refurb my only issue now is how to create an attachment or hookup to my golf cart, please share if you have any ideas Read more

I love this speaker! I was so incredibly impressed that I bought a flip 4 to pair with it instead of buying a home setup after reading how these speakers "connect" to one another. Good ol' JBL failed to explain that the flip 4 and newer speakers DO NOT connect to the Xtreme or earlier models. Felt completely slighted by JBL, even after sending them an email and their "Oh well, sucks to be you attitude" after explaining their crappy description of what it will connect to. It is a great speaker, but JBL is doing a bait a switch, so beware if you have an earlier version of the flip or Xtreme, it WILL NOT work with anything newer. Too bad as the products are great, but the company is misleading. Read more

I LOVE THIS THING!!! AND IT'S HUGE!!! It gets loud and has deep bass. I compared it to my other JBL speakers (2 Charge 3's, Charge 2+ (Sold), 2 flip 3's (sold) and 2 clip 2's (sold) THEY DIDN'T EVEN MATCH THIS BEAST! ) and this has to be the best as it has more features with 2 usb charge out ports, 2 tweeters to help with the treble along with the drivers to do everything else, and giant passive radiators on the sides to get that nice bass. There is only one problem with the Xtreme, but it doesn't affect me much. Around or at max volume the bass seems to be more forced and has a slight distortion to it. I only play at max if I were alone or at a park. Outside the speaker still keeps its good quality sound and I everyone goes crazy because of its size! I play all types of music and this speaker handles it all. (STILL HAVE MORE TO WRITE) Read more
