This is my first tripod purchased for my Nikon DSLR. After reading tons of reviews and recommendations, I settled on the Joilcan 80. I had owned a video tripod with a pan head; but it seemed the best solution for my Nikon was a ball head. And I was happy to have the taller profile. Having just opened it and briefly put it through its paces, it has not disappointed. It's well-made, solid and seems to be tough enough for me as my skills progress (at least I hope my skills progress!). I am impressed by the appearance, by the stability, by the screw-type leg extensions, by the retractable points on the feet, by the versatility of the ball head and, not the least of the features, the relatively compact size of the piece in its nice case. I am expecting years of use from this (surely almost) professional quality tripod. Thanks. Read more

Very nice tripod! Solid setup!! Comes in a durable bag! If you buy a “kit” camera with tripod, just throw it away and buy this one. You will not be disappointed. Read more

The review should really be 4.5 stars. I was looking for a needle in a haystack and I think I found it. This is an excellent tripod for under $100 and does what you need. It is sturdy and feels like it is made of quality materials. It is compact which is what I was looking for. It is not lightweight however. Considering what other companies are charging for tripods this was a superb find on Amazon for under $100. I would have given it 5 stars but I feel like things get a bit wobbly when you raise the center pole up all the way, no quick release plate and the manual was not the best at providing directions.. For example there is a 5 inch pipe included with female threads on both ends that comes with a screw/nut piece. I'm assuming it's to extend the pole but there is no information in the manual telling what it does. It took me a bit of time to play around with everything to figure out what knobs do what, etc. Quick release plate and better information in the owners manual bump this up to a 5 star easily. I definitely recommend buying this if your on a budget or just getting into photography. The hook on the bottom of the center pole to help weight it down is a great touch. Read more

This tripod is amazing, considering it is less than $100. The tripod is exceptionally sturdy and all moving parts are easily manipulated and lock tightly. There is an integrated level, which is handy. I used this tripod for astrophotography using a DSLR. Connecting the camera is straightforward. Positioning the camera was easy and stable. The only drawback for astrophotography is the inability to point up. I think it is limited to less than 70 degrees. This limitation can partially be overcome by extending the forward leg a bit, but it would have been nice to adjust the ball joint for higher aiming of the camera. However, this tripod is an outstanding value in all other respects. Read more

I was very pleased to receive my new tripod. I have been using for several weeks now and I have to admit it is a joy to use. Light weight, for its size, yet very stable and durable. The build quality is very good. Putting my Canon 80D on any tripod for the first time, I am always very cautious. With this tripod, I felt very confident doing it. The ball head joint, which is all metal, works perfectly. I am sure I will have many years of shooting successfully on this tripod. Thanks again for an excellent professional grade tripod! Read more

Update: I originally gave this product 5 out of 5 stars because of its heavy duty features, material (aluminum) and versatility. I'm now lowering my rating to 1 star... unfortunately, after only two attempts to use the monopole feature, the tripod started to fall apart with small pieces coming out of the screw knobs that secure and stabilize the center post (see photos below). These plastic pieces are very light and thin. Their intended purpose is to keep the center post from wobbling and to decrease friction as the center pole is adjusted up/down or removed to create the monopole. I contacted the Customer service, they sent me a series of 3D CAD drawings that showed where the parts are located on the center pole. However, they did not provide any instructions as to how they should be remounted, or if indeed the part needs to be replaced in order for the product to work correctly. This is the second product from Joilcan that I've attempted to use, the first was returned because the center post was thin plastic and would not support my binoculars. So, I returned the tripod as noted in my frist review. By all accounts, I thought the upgraded "heavy duty" tripod would service my needs as I do not use tripods very often. However, for all of its versatility, this is just a poorly constructed product. I would return it if I were not outside the window of opportunity. Look elsewhere for your tripod needs. Not only is the product lacking in endurance and quality (mine is less than 3 months old) the customer service is generally unresponsive. Other than the 3D drawings that are really useless, no attempt was made to even try to provide a replacement part. Read more
