... because this one is better made, easier to use and more versatile than any other I've ever seen. It has two grating surfaces, one I'd call medium and one coarse, to meet most of your needs. The grating surfaces are of "micro-plane" design... VERY sharp and fast-cutting. This grater is supplied with a plastic shield that covers the cutting surfaces of the blade when it's not in use and serves as a "bin" to catch the grated material while you're actually grating. The handle can be used in-line as is usually the case or it can be rotated 90 degrees such that the grater can be used on angle and supported on two ends... for those really tough or gruelingly tiresome grating occasions. Best grater I've ever had; very thoughtful design! The cover doubles as a catcher, and it has cup measure marks so you know how much you've grated. Works great, nice & sharp and has the 2 most used sizes. I have MS and my hands are lousy sometimes, and the fold around handle is a huge help. Seems pretty sturdy too. i thought at first it was steep pricewise but it's bigger than i expected and it helps my disabled hand while grating. worth the price. very sharp which facilitates grating. if you need a useful grater this should do the trick. Read more

Omg, must've taken my "stupid" pill that day?.....because I literally broke the handle off. Pressed the little button and tried to bend the handle straight down. Took a bit of "elbow grease" but, I finally succeeded....tiny bits of plastic and metal spring went flying,LOL!!! Meanwhile, the husband sitting over here just laughing.....anyway, threw it away and IMMEDIATELY ordered another one because YES!, this is the best grater ever!! I use a lot of parmesan cheese on everything.....been searching a long time for a good grater. Been buying the pre-grated stuff in containers but, they get moldy too fast. I wanted to start buying the hard blocks because I think they keep longer? This grater IS very sharp(as someone mentioned)....I have a steel mesh glove so, I don't scrape my knuckles. Also, don't know about the plastic cover being used as a measuring device?.....I don't measure anything, just eyeballing. As for being hard to clean?.....everything is hard to clean!!....rinse it off immediately, use a soft toothbrush to get all the bits off then, put it away. Is most excellent for citrus "zesting", too.....previously used the dried stuff but, fresh rinds are SO much better. Been trying to stop buying useless kitchen gadgets but, this grater is a winner(threw all my other ones away). Yes, buy it!!! And, remember to "TWIST/SWIVEL" the handle, in order to prop it up,LOL!!.....(the little button will lock in place & it works perfectly......can place over a plate,cutting board, whatever......grate whatever you need and scatter accordingly). After grating my knuckles too many times, I had to find a better grater. This is it. I must freshly grate my Reggiano Parmagiano to best enjoy the taste. I also wanted to avoid getting the grated cheese all over the counter. This Joseph Joseph does this and more. I keep my grater in the twisted position because I always use it that way. I use the cover to catch all the grated cheese. So easy to clean too! Read more
