This colander is surprisingly useful. I originally bought it because I hate washing rice and I wanted something I can use fast and empty with just one hand. Repeatedly washing rice (at least 6 times - 3 with no stirring by hand and 3 with stirring with your hand) is the key to a quality preparation of boiled white rice with separated grains. For washing rice it is great and I no longer waste any rice when draining. However, due to its design, it really is a superior design as a colander in general. I can FULLY submerge any veggie I place in it for cleaning, ensuring all dirt/pesticide/fertilizer is rinsed off. This is something you cannot do with regular colanders. It is also great for washing lettuce, fruits like cherries, grapes, strawberries, cut broccoli, etc. You know you have rinsed every inch of the surface of anything you place in it. At first, it looks small, but I don't mind since if it were any bigger it would be harder to handle when full of water and whatever you are washing. For big rinsing jobs, I just break up the task. It is reasonably priced and super easy to clean. It sits at an awkward angle but that is just part of the design. A well-thought out kitchen tool, that you may find yourself using frequently. Where has this been my whole rice washing life?!?! Absolutely love this for washing rice and I find myself using it over any other colander I own for washing everything. It is the perfect size, super easy and you can control the water level very easily. Probably buying one or two more of these and I highly recommend. Read more

I’ve discovered numerous uses for this strainer beyond rice. I use it to wash and rinse blueberries and other fruits, and to agitate and clean beans. The bottom of the bowl has tiny nubs that can be used to gently wash certain foods like rice or beans that may require additional cleaning. The holes on the side make straining easy, and its lightweight design makes picking it up a breeze. This is definitely something I never knew I needed, but I find myself using it frequently. Highly recommend! Read more

This works really well at washing Japanese short grain, along with Basmati rice. Price is in line with the high quality of the item. Easy to use, and the design allows for the water to drain without losing rice grains. The bumps on the bottom seem to help remove any loose bran or mill dust. This has cut down on the number of washes/rinses I have to perform, compared to using a standard bowl or the rice cooker container. Holds at least 3 cups (I have not tried any more than that, but there was ample room left when using 3 cups of rice). Read more

Great bowl. I just wish it came in a smaller size, as this is much larger than I anticipated or needed. Read more

I was so hopeful for the design on this, but no. If you were expecting to tip it to let the water drain while you did other prep, forget it: you have to hold it patiently so it will drain fully. Also, the edges aren't sharply made, but kinda soft/rounded, so it doesn't balance especially well tipped up. The holes are too large and there are too few. Small grains of rice get snagged in the holes, blocking the draining (the longer grains of rice are okay). The dimpled bottom and the rim are big pluses. Read more
