These are good replacement joysticks, though be aware that they are the same as the ones you are replacing, which you are likely replacing due to stick drift. These are not hall effect sticks, they are the same. Which means it's a matter of when, not if, they also start drifting. As long as you know that, there's nothing wrong with these. They feel the same as OEM sticks and should work fine in an Xbox controller, removing the stick drift for cheap. You will need to desolder the old sticks and solder these in, which isn't hard if you know what you're doing but definitely will be hard if you've never soldered before. If you're buying these you hopefully already know that. So they're not the hardest to install but I wouldn't say easy either, for the average person. They're nice and affordable, but won't last forever. They feel identical to OEM sticks and should work fine with Xbox One controllers onward. Read more
Most importantly this did the trick on two of my Elite 2 controllers. I had a drift on two of them and luckily I was able to use one for each. You do need to pop the cover off and go a level or two down into it. I highly suggest watching a video (there are plenty out there) to walk you through the process. They did a great job at making the new unit's almost plug and play, however, I did wind up touching it up with a little solder. Considering the alternative of a useless controller that costs north of a hundred it's well worth it to repair. The work as good, if not better, than the factory installed and saved me big time on two controllers that I most likely would have used for parts. So, I have no issues with the quality or the price of the product. They are of sufficient quality and they are not overpriced. These are the same type of potentiometers that come in the Elite Series 2 just not quite as smooth. They install easily and they are accurate enough but they will drift eventually just like all potentiometers. Time will tell on how durable these sticks are but if the $160 Elite 2 sticks start drifting in under a year, I have to imagine these will, too. I can’t knock them for what I think will happen yet but I can always come back and lower the review later if they fail quickly. As it stands these are a decent replacement that are similar to the original. Simple to install with the ifixit guide that is easily accessible to anyone. If you are tired of having to keep increasing your dead zone to a point it’s impossible to be accurate you should buy new sticks instead of a new controller. That’s exactly what Sony/MS/Nintendo wants you to do. Replacement controllers are a $10 billion dollar an year industry because they use potentiometers. This is intentional. Hall effect and TMR are the only ways to avoid stick drift. Potentiometers are fine but they are not durable enough to be considered permanent, unfortunately. They will all fail with use, eventually. These are your standard carbon film elite series 2 joystick replacements. The price is comparable to all the other brands out there and seems to be good value. Obviously if you have attempted to remove these style joysticks before, you know how difficult it can be and you will most likely need the right tools for the job. That being said, I used one of the joystick solder tools to remove my old joysticks but was not able to get these new ones installed, so had to manually inserts and solder each post individually. After all was put back together, I went into the calibration program but was never able to center either joystick. I could understand if one worked and the other didn’t, but both replacements displayed the same non-centering issue no matter what I did. I decided to order a different brand (virtually identical) set of joysticks and did the same removal method on these, when I did however, one of the joysticks fell into pieces, so again, not sure if it was a quality control issue or not. Anyway, the new set of replacements installed with no issue and calibrated with no issue, so maybe I just got a bad set. Read more
Overall I have zero complaints. These are well built and appear to be of high quality. I only needed one, but a pack of two is handy as I'm sure one will fail eventually. Got the carbon film variety, or potentiometer-based, which will prolly wear out again. I'd buy these value sensors again. Action Joysticks spring back into position quickly and have good resistance. threads for thumbnubs are clean and thread well. I can't tell a difference from the OEM. Construction Dimensionally identical fit for me and no problem installation. Next time though, I'd probably get TMR just to see if they live up to their reputation of drift-free. Read more
