It may be hard to tell from the pictures, but this mat is very special. I was surprised when I opened the box to see the laminated fibers, which I'd never actually seen before. As an obsessive cleaner, I'm on the constant lookout for doormats that will keep the dirt at bay and stay attractive and clean-looking themselves. It seems like a simple thing, but it's not. Most doormats begin to shed very quickly, possibly causing more of a problem than they solve. But I'm glad to say that this mat is everything that I've been hoping to find. A few things to think about: 1. Clearance. You should be aware when buying this mat that it is a bit thicker than most of the bristle kinds. If you're planning on putting it in area where the door will be swinging over it, you should measure under the door to make sure there is a solid inch of clearance. Unlike bristle kinds, the fibers on this mat are formed into "blocks" and don't bend or give at all. This feature makes the mat more durable, easier to clean, and more attractive than bristle mats but you should be sure to check your door before buying it. 2. The width. Since my doormat was going to be for a professional building, it was important that it looked nice in the doorway. When I went online I was looking for something wider that would match a three-foot door. I chose this mat over the wider ones because I was really set on the semicircular design. I'm glad I did, because it looks perfect even though it's quite a bit narrower than the doorway. From an aesthetics perspective, I don't think you should be concerned with the width at all. 3. Water. Since I got this for an office with an interior entrance in a shared hallway, and not for outside, my mat will never take abuse from the weather, so I can't vouch for its outdoor durability. However, upon close inspection, and after several weeks of high foot traffic, it does appear to be holding up spectacularly. The fibers are indeed "set" into the rubber backing, which makes them pretty invulnerable to wear. Best of all, there is absolutely none of the shedding that you get with bristle mats. The only problem I can foresee it potentially having with outdoor use is the same problem I've had with every doormat I've ever owned: rain. If you're putting yours outside, and your doorway doesn't offer much protection, expect the grooves to fill up with water like all the rest of them. For the price, I think this is the best doormat you could get and it beats out most higher-cost competitors as well. In my experience, doormats last one-to-two years before looking dingy enough to replace. I've been content to pay forty dollars in the past for a mat that only lasted that long. Well, this one will definitely last at least that long for half the price. And, unless it's sitting in a doorway that's unsheltered, I'd expect it to last a couple years longer than that. Read more
Perfect size for our double door entry. Classic look and effective at doing the job that you want it to. Heavy enough that it does not get blown around in windy conditions although I'm sure there is a limit at some point. Read more
Great quality rug that looks great in front of my double doors (most rugs I've had in front of the front double doors in the past are too small). This rug brings out the front door appeal. It is slip resistant, lays flat, and seems very durable. Would highly recommend this to anyone with large front doors. Read more
Very good quality. Just remember that outdoor door matts eventually deteriorate. From personal experience, plan on replacing it about every five years. Read more
I agree with the other two reviewers 100%! I just received mine and it looks perfect! The larger size is attractive, practical, and impressive. It is thick and relatively heavy so it should stay in place and do the intended job of cleaning shoes prior to entering. Nice price as well. I'm contemplating purchasing another. I will update as to the way it wears as time passes. 7-25-14- This has been outside our front door now for over two years. It is in a covered alcove but not isolated from the weather or temperature changes. It is showing some wear, the rubber edges slightly cracked, but is still flat and intact otherwise. I'm sharing this as it seems the quality may have changed since I purchased mine, or perhaps the vendor makes a difference. Mine came from William F. Kempf & Son Inc., through Amazon. 11-2017- I purchased another of these rugs about a year ago because, they just don't last forever. I've had the new one out for a year plus and it is wearing as well as the first. It is in the covered foyer as the last one so gets some protection, but still gets weather; rain and snow when it's from the east. Still recommend this rug purchased from the above retailer through Amazon. Read more
Overall I am happy with this mat. It arrived pretty fast (it's not always on AmazonPrime) and the price is pretty reasonable (I got it for ~$54). It's pretty thick, definitely great quality there. If your door opens directly over the mat it might actually prove to be too thick. I've had trouble finding a half round mat this size (this one is 47" diameter). Neither my local Home Depot nor Lowe's carry them and the only other place online where I've been able to find them has been walmart. The reason for not giving it 5 stars is that even though it was shipped flat and it arrived in great condition once we put it outside the edges began to slightly curl. I think it might be a function of the temperature outside because it seems like it lays flat in the mornings when it's cool and after a few hours of the sun beating down on it the edges get a bit wavy. It's not to the level of being a tripping hazard, but it's definitely noticeable and makes me question the longevity of the mat. I would recommend this product and will purchase it again. Read more
