Kenneth Cole REACTION Sophie Backpack Black 15 Laptop

I travel frequently for work and needed something more protective and practical than my purse to carry my laptop around. I had been searching for months for a laptop backpack that was polished, professional and feminine…and not made of heavy leather. A very tall order. I reluctantly began searching for the best pricing for the Tumi Carson, which I had seen on a colleague who had similar challenges finding an appropriate backpack for work. Fortunately, while searching Amazon for the Tumi, I ran across this Sophie bag from Kenneth Cole Reaction. It appeared to be very similar in style and size as the Tumi Carson, so I took a chance and placed an order. What a great bag! Having seen the Tumi in person, there is no way I could justify its' $400 price tag when this Kenneth Cole is equally functional and a fraction of the cost. Admittedly, it lacks some of the refinements of a $400 bag (the Tumi nylon is slightly higher quality, and the back straps are nicer and don't have dangling ends)…but this is not a deal breaker. I carry Dooney and Bourke bags exclusively - so I have a certain "standard" when it comes to handbags, totes and briefcases. For the price, this Sophie bag is a great deal, and more importantly, it is polished enough to carry with my business attire. It slides over the bulky handle on my Travelpro Platinum carry-on with ease, holds my laptop in a padded compartment, cords, wallet, phones, makeup bag, iPad, and has plenty of room to spare. The only improvement needed: the side pockets have only one zipper so when I place my 240z Hydroflask bottle, I don't have a snug fit. If these pockets had two zippers I could pull them up on both sides of the bottle to help secure in place. Still, even with this minor inconvenience, this backpack gets 5 stars from me: professional, lightweight, organized, stylish and functional. Love the simple, clean, yet trendy look of this backpack. The first one I ordered came with a ripped handle, but the company was quick to respond and replace the item. The replacement arrived within 24 hours and was in perfect condition! The backpack itself is perfect for me as a graduate student. It comfortably fits my heavy school books, notes, and folders, and my 13" MacBook fits nicely in the padded laptop zip pocket with plenty of extra room. I love the striped interior of the backpack! It adds a nice feminine touch. I also love the addition of the "safety pocket" to store credit cards/wallet and protect them from identity theft, it's a great feature! I commute to work and school in all kinds of weather and so far this backpack has held up nicely through it all. The nylon exterior has kept my electronics dry on rainy days. Absolutely no signs of wear and tear after about 1 month of use. Echoing previous reviews, I do rather dislike the cheap look of the label on the outside and the fact that the side pockets only have one zipper making for a less than snug fit for a water bottle/umbrella... but these are just minor annoyances. Overall, it's a great backpack. It looks clean and sleek, has lots of pocket space, and holds up well. Perfect for school or even casual business, and the affordable price is an added bonus. I have been extremely pleased with this backpack. I've had it for about a year now and have used it daily. I use it for travel (as my personal item) and as my daily bag. It is sturdy and has held up great. The zippers are strong, good quality. I got the navy blue (it has gold zippers which makes it look a little more stylish for everyday use). It has so many useful pockets, and even though I fill it really full, I always seem to have extra space for a lightweight jacket, etc. and it holds my laptop perfectly and securely. The hand hold at the top is starting to tear at the seam, (mostly my fault due to filling it with a lot of heavy stuff for travel). Other than that, the backpack still looks like new. I have this bag for a couple of weeks and it is so stylish everyone loves it. It has enough room for all my things. My laptop fits perfectly and much easier to carry then on my shoulder. The only thing missing is a place for my water bottle, I try putting in on the side but it has a zipper so the pocket must stay open if I put a water bottle in it. To be honest I was debating between a 4 or 5 star rating. Love all the compartments, super easy to be organized. It’s not a super large bag so it doesn’t look bulky or will kill your back when you over stuff. Very sturdy and hella functional. The only minor downside is the zipper color. It’s like yellow gold, the stitching is a lighter color and the zipper pull thingie is darker gold more rose gold. It’s odd and does make the bag seem cheap if you look really closely at the zipper and stitching. But honestly, it’s the best bag I’ve found for the size, color, price and functionality. It’s great for travel and business which is what I use it for. It’s in-line with a lot of the higher brand travel backpack ie Travelpro, Tumi, Briggs & Riley, Away, etc. Read more

The design of this backpack is much like the expensive Tumi backpacks that run up to several hundred dollars. For $70-$100, I get the same chic look with this backpack. I also love how many pockets it has. It can be used for laptop and tech gear, or if your a sporty person, the different pockets are great for storing all sorts of things like small shampoo bottles, flipflops, and other personal necessities. The backpack is great for any purpose really. Traveling, gym, commuting... it does it all. I've had mine for two years now. It's a bit scuffed up but it's still going strong. My only complaints is that the loops of the shoulder straps are a bit hard to maneuver (shorten and lengthen) sometimes. It's a lightweight, cheap back pack that has a cute look, which is exactly what I needed. Read more
