Fantastic knife, may be a bit large for some peoples taste in EDC. Works great for me, nice heft, nice edge, love the "bedliner" type gritty surface on it, doesn't slip out of pockets and a nice firm grip even when wet. This is the first folding knife of this kind that I’ve ever owned (I’ve had small pocket folders before, like Swiss Army knives). I bought a Harnds Blazer at the same time I bought this Kershaw. I like both knives and the Harnds has some good qualities but I have to say that I like the Kershaw better, especially because of the assisted opening feature. The total open length of the knife is about 8”, closed length is about 4 3/4”. It’s pretty light (weight). I didn’t weigh the knife by itself, instead I left it in its’ box and weighed the whole thing. I figure the box and its’ other contents (plastic bag and pamphlet) by themselves weigh about an ounce so I figure the knife weighs between 3.5oz and 4oz. The handle fits in my hand nicely and comfortably, the scales are a little grippy so it shouldn’t slip out of my hand even if it’s wet. The blade is a drop point tanto design with a hollow grind, it looks and feels very nice. The tiger stripe pattern looks great. The blade length is about 3 1/4” from tip to handle; the serrated portion is about 1 1/4”. The blade is very sharp (both the plain and serrated edges) and the blade tip is a VERY sharp point. The serrations on this knife are ground a little longer than serrations more commonly used on tactical knives, the teeth are a little longer and more aggressive on this knife, they grab hold of and cut through cloth more easily. The blade steel is Swedish Sandvik 14C28N. It’s debatable whether this is a good blade steel or not. With only .6% carbon in it, it would be somewhat on the soft side and that’s why Sandvik added .1% nitrogen which makes the steel harder, it has a similar effect as if they had put more carbon in the steel. How much harder it is than it would be (at .6% carbon) without the nitrogen I don’t know. With the 14% chromium alone in this steel, it puts it over the threshold of being true stainless steel, with the lower amount of carbon and the added nitrogen it makes this steel even more corrosion resistant, in other words, this blade should withstand corrosion in any watery environment except maybe salt water/marine conditions. There is also a little manganese and silicon in this steel which helps makes it a little harder still. There is no molybdenum, vanadium, tungsten, nickel or cobalt in this steel, any or all of which would have added considerable hardness, toughness and wear resistance to the steel, and also cost. I’ve barely used the knife so far, so I can’t say how durable it’s going to be over the long haul, but given the chemistry of it and the presumably good heat treat by Kershaw, it seems likely this is a pretty good (not great) stainless steel. This knife IS assisted opening (AO). Using the thumb studs, push the blade about a quarter of the way out of the handle and the spring kicks in and flips it open the rest of the way pretty fast. It was a little difficult to open at first but after opening it a number of times it has loosened up and is easier to open now and that seems to be a fairly common thing with folding knives. This knife uses a liner lock to lock the blade open and mine locks rock solid, not even a hint of wiggle in any direction. The lock bar is easy to push back against the liner and it’s easy to fold the blade back in. The pocket clip isn’t big but it’s big enough and tight enough to hold it securely in my pocket. It’s held on with two standard Torx screws (not sure about the size probably T4 or T5). Out of the box mine was on end of the handle where the blade screw is but it can be removed and placed on the butt end of the handle (on the right side only, it cannot be placed on the left side of the handle). I’m not absolutely sure, but I believe that this particular Kershaw is made in the U.S.A. For the quality and the features in this knife and the price you get it for ($54 for me) this is a very good buy. 4.3 stars. Read more

The blade on the knife comes out of the box very sharp but after a few uses needs to be sharpened. I would suggests buying a handheld sharpener if you plan on extended use. Another concern is the blade rusts very easily. I have only owned this knife for about a week and have been very cautious to wipe it off if it comes in contact with water. However the blade still has begun to rust. It seems like the rust is only appearing in the tiger stripes. Overall love the spring assisted opening but there are better knifes out there for less. Edit: I’ve owned this knife for about 4.5 years now, and I have to say I’m very impressed. This thing has survived days at the beach, being covered in mud, and even stabbing a granite countertop (long story). I will say I’d like the blade to be a slightly harder alloy as the serrated section dulls especially quick. But for surviving 4 years of edc and still having basically zero play in the mechanism, 5 stars. Read more

This knife is in one word "Fantastic" . I had one exactly like it except for the blade finish, which I managed to lose several months ago. I had owned the knife for over 2 years and was absolutely heart-broken when I realized it was gone. This knew one arrived today, and I feel like a kid on Christmas day. It works perfectly and feels like an old friend in my hand. I wasn't sure I would like the Tiger-Stripe blade, but it actually looks better in real life than in the pictures. I think everyone else has covered most of what can be said for this knife except for one thing, It does not have the "Flipper" like most of the other speed-safe knives. I have carried those kind and they will eventually wear a hole in you pocket. This knife is smooth and light weight and carries very well. And one last thing, the bottom side of my arms are bare now because this thing is literally razor sharp right out of the box. Read more
