I use hand mixers on a daily basis, so as soon as I got my new KitchenAid mixer I went to work making several batches of Christmas cookie dough - the thick kind that has no eggs in it - and this mixer easily mixed the dough on "3". Others have mentioned that the beaters are cheap, but they seem very sturdy. In addition it was super quiet, unlike the Braun 4 in 1 mixer I used previously (which, by the way, was a great mixer but now only works on high) and I love, love, love the graduated start - no flinging flour. This mixer has a 220 watt motor, which I was initially worried about since my Braun has a 280 watt motor, but I couldn't tell the difference. It's a champ . . . and made in America to boot. I am one happy customer. If anything changes I'll update this review. Read more

I have an earlier version of this Kitchen Aid hand mixer, which was purchased in 1994 and still works but I had been thinking about replacing it with a newer one. After reading some of the other reviews, I was a little skeptical about purchasing this model. When it arrived I compared it with my older one and thought this new one seems lighter and wondered if it would be as good. On Thanksgiving Day, I gave it a good workout mixing up 5lbs of potatoes to mash -- I was very impressed with how well it did the job. For me, I think I made the right choice to purchase this hand mixer. Read more

It would seem that KitchenAid has joined the long list of iconic American manufacturers who can no longer be trusted to produce a quality product. I had always considered KA to be a "quality" brand, I've owned a K5S "Stand" mixer for about 20 years (and most of the available attachments) and it performs perfectly to this day. About 8 years ago I got a KA 5 speed hand mixer for lighter work and from day one I was extremely disappointed by the lack of power. My complaints were heard and this past holiday season, my daughter gave me a new KA 7 speed digital hand mixer. I had high hopes, but that first one wouldn't let me insert the beaters, so I returned it for another. The second one wouldn't even turn on. It went back to Amazon as well, but not before I noticed something very interesting; the mixer I.D plate revealed that this 7 speed model had the exact same 60 Watt motor as my old 5 speed. When I researched the subject, I found that even KA's $100 9 speed digital model uses the same wimpy motor. My course was clear, KitchenAid no more. I looked around and found (on Amazon) a solution: the Viking Manual 5 Speed Hand Mixer, Metallic Silver. While slightly more expensive than the KA, it is well worth the price. With a 250 Watt motor it is 4 times more powerful than ANY KitchenAid hand mixer. It would be inappropriate to "review" the Viking here, but suffice it to say: it is everything the KitchenAid SHOULD BE. Read more

Ridiculous. I bought the artisan 7 hand mixer with digital controls model KHM7TBU5. I have used this mixer maybe 20 times total over the years. It looks brand new inside and out. I got it out last week to mix up a fast recipe and it would not turn on at all. The last time i used it the controls acted a little funky. Completely dead. I called Kitchen Aid and they offered to sell me another one but could not repair this one. I paid 70 dollars or so for this mixer. It is barely used but way out of the Made in China warranty. I called around and searched around for parts to replace the electronic controls but KitchenAid does not offer repairs or repair parts for the hand mixer. Even when i called up Kitchenaid repair center they sent me to mendingshed.com "for the parts i needed"... Guess they don't even want to admit that the only alternative is to throw away a kitchenaid hand mixer if it quits. The motor is perfectly fine all i needed was a replacement circuit board and connected switch. It is very replaceable as it all just plugs in no soldering required. My advice ? If you want to throw away your mixer every few years buy one that is priced to be disposable not a 70 dollar KitchenAid. Read more

Beware of kitchenaid hand mixers. Having been thru 3 mixers, we started buying Kitchenaid appliances. The mixer itself is great, but one beater fell apart; the response of Kitchenaid when trying to replace only them? "Oh, sorry, we discontinued those beaters 6 months ago. We have no replacement beaters for that model, you'll have to replace the model. Have a nice day." Same thing has also happened with our $90 5-speed blender, no cutter blade now available, but if I had the snap on lid, instead of the screw-on, a cutter blade is available..they create business for the company, but cost the consumer.
