Based on my wonderful experience with Kite Hill’s Dairy-Free Cream Cheese, I had to try the Sour Cream. Let me tell you, the results blew me away. I used it to make a creamy seafood sauce for squid ink pasta and it worked beautifully. The taste and consistency were such that nobody could believe there wasn’t any actual cream in the sauce. I was afraid it would break up in the heat, but it behaved exactly like sour cream. We have a casein allergy and a lactose intolerant in our household so these aren’t just dietary novelties or fads to us. These products allow us to enjoy and share dishes, along with the memories, folklore and culture that they evoke; Things that we had resigned to give up because of a biological imperative outside of our control. The value of that cannot be measured. Considering that, I’d say the price is fair and reasonable. So, yes, it’s a pretty great thing. And, I highly recommend it. Read more

I have low expectations for fake dairy products, but this tastes pretty similar to sour cream, has the same texture, and doesn't have any kind of aftertaste. I tried it as a nacho topping, worked really well. I wouldn't want a big spoon of it all on its own, but as an ingredient it works. I can see it as a useful ingredient in a lot of recipes when I would have needed sour cream or yogurt. It's pretty expensive though, so I won't be buying it all the time. Update: I used this dairy-free sour cream in my cornbread recipe recently, and the result was amazing! It was actually even better than usual. Also used it in place of labne (aka kefir cheese), put some olive oil and zaatar on it for my son, and he was so excited to be able to eat his favorite sandwich again since finding out about his dairy allergy. Very happy to have found this product! Read more

If you can’t have dairy, this is a great alternative. I use this as dip and even mix with olive oil and organic mustard to make my own salad dressing! Read more

It took me a while to get use to sour cream and when I did, I learned that I had a dairy allergy. I was skeptical at first about the vegan alternatives on the market but I have to say I have not been disappointed with Kite Hill Plant Based Sour Cream, 12 OZ. In fact, I barely notice a difference. This brand is not as sour as the dairy sour cream but a little lime juice takes care of that. It's also not as thick but a little whipping fixes that as well. Of course, with all things vegan, it costs more than the animal products but as an occasional treat; it's pretty good. Read more

Nice consistency and taste. I like the fact that it’s also soy free! I use it the same as the “dairy based” sour cream. I do recommend that if it’s for an onion dip or ranch style dip, make your dip recipe in advance of when you need it and chill in fridge for at least a couple hours for that great dip consistency. I wish at this price, ($4.99) it came in a larger serving. So I usually have to buy two at a time! But I would still highly recommend this brand! Read more

It tastes like it has dairy, but it doesn’t! I’ve become lactose intolerant in my 40s and have been struggling because I miss all things creamy and cheesy. This stuff is so good. It tastes like the sour cream I’ve eaten my whole life. I put it on tacos, nachos, enchiladas, and chili. I haven’t tried to use it in any baking recipes yet, but that’s next. Read more

When I had to stop eating dairy several months ago I tried as many sour cream substitutes as I could in search of something even a little bit close to the real thing. This is by far the best, in my opinion, and could seriously pass as the real stuff. One possibly negative thing about it is how quickly it “melts.” When it sits out of the fridge too long it starts to turn into more of a crema consistency. I don’t mind that because I usually would make a simple crema with OG sour cream in place of plain sour cream. If you dollop that stuff on a plate expecting to dip your nachos for an hour, this may not be for you (or maybe it is because you like runny sour cream like my weird family and I!) Read more

I didn’t have high hopes for this product, since I am a dairy sour cream lover; but this product blew me away! Unless you’re eating it plain by the spoonful, you won’t be able to tell that it’s dairy-free. When trying it plain, there is a definite aftertaste to it, but when dolloped on top of a bowl of chili or garnished on a fajita, I couldn’t tell the difference. Tasted identical to sour cream. It meshes well with the other flavors of the dish. It’s delicious! Read more
