The best quality your money can buy! Read more
The design, appearance and build quality of this jacket are all outstanding, as one would expect from Klim at this price. But the EU cut is too snug for me. I’m a size medium and I ordered a size 50, which is my correct size. European sizing is more tailored and meant to be snug, and I was expecting this, but I found it too tight when used with a Klim airbag vest. Today, I wore a t-shirt with a medium, base layer underneath the vest and was reasonably comfortable down to 40 degrees. But the airbag needs space to deploy inside the jacket. Anything thicker mid layers in this jacket, like the puffer liner that’s included or a heavier fleece, and the fit is too constricting. It’s uncomfortable and could compromise the airbag should it deploy in a crash. (Duh! Klim should have thought of this since they sell the airbags.) The Kodiak is heavy and warm, warmer than most Goretex shells. Any other textile jacket today and I would have needed a thicker base layer underneath it. The Kodiak is exceptionally well vented, so it will keep you cool in high heat — as long as you keep moving. If you stall, I suspect you’ll quickly overheat. The steep price of the Kodiak includes the down puffer liner modeled on Klim’s Maverick jacket. It’s a nice jacket, but it should be sold separately as an add-on. A lot of people, like myself, don’t like down midlayers because they don’t breathe that well and overheat. I prefer merino or fleece. The mandatory puffer liner is the number one complaint people have with the Kodiak. It’s a legit complaint. Customers should get a choice. Read more
