Works well

It fit really well. My toddler is kind of afraid of it because it IS louder than my old one, but he is getting used to it. I don’t think it’s too loud, but what does mom know? I would definitely recommend a two person installation. I had to put this together on my own since my other half was at work and my oldest REFUSED to use any other toilet in the house. The instructions are pretty simple, I had to reread it a few times to make sure I was doing it correctly since some of it didn’t make sense and my old one was a completely different style. I did have to tighten the bolts on the outside of the tank the next day since the rubber seal smooshed down a bit. It’s been about 4-6 weeks, and no issues. It’s a slow flush so we have to hold down the handle longer to flush the toilet, and it takes a good 10-15 seconds to fill the basin. Overall, I’m happy with it. Read more

Solved a Nasty Problem I Didn’t Know Toilets Could Have

I bought a home with two toilets that had iron bacteria infestations—something I’d never dealt with before. The toilet tanks were orange, slimy, and gave off a swampy, rotten vegetation odor. The odor was so strong and persistent, it even clung to everything nearby, even clothing—no matter how much I cleaned, it lingered until I fully replaced the internal parts. Even after thoroughly scrubbing the tanks with an acid-based toilet bowl cleaner, the smell still lingered. That’s when I realized the odor was in the flapper and gasket and that I had to replace everything inside the tank, not just clean it. Enter the Korky QuietFILL Complete Kit—and what a difference. Installation took some time, mainly due to removing old, stubborn parts. What made a big difference was purchasing a dedicated toilet repair tool—it made the process much smoother and was well worth the investment. This can be a time-consuming project for a DIYer with no prior plumbing experience—especially if you’re also dealing with iron bacteria and cleaning out the tank during the process. Tackling both at once adds to the workload, but if you have the same issue, it’s necessary for a thorough, long-lasting fix. The parts feel high-quality, and it completely transformed the function and smell of the toilet. It runs quietly and efficiently, and the water flow is smooth. I was so impressed, I bought a second kit for our other toilet. The one drawback is that the kit doesn’t include enough washers to secure the bolts to the tank first before attaching it to the toilet bowl. This was the installation method previously used, and we wanted to replicate it for a more stable fit. Even so, we purchased a couple extras from the hardware store, and I’m so happy I did not have to buy new toilets (I was seriously ready to toss them!). Read more

Tank May Wobble on Old Toilets

I like the Korky complete toilet plumbing kit because it is relatively quiet and works well. But, as others have already pointed out, if you have, say, 50+ year old American Standard toilets like I do, the provided tank-to-bowl washer is far too thick, and the tank will wobble while riding on this overly thick washer. And the existing washer is probably in not so good shape after all these years. I did not subtract a star for this, as Korky cannot reasonable provide a washer for all possible toilets, and they clearly state that their kit fits the majority of toilets (so not all), and mine is over half a century old. When I put a Korky plumbing set into my main bathroom toilet, I simply tightened the screws real tight and lived for many years with the wobble. But when recently my handyman was replacing the plumbing in the guest bathroom with Korky, mutiny threatened. So I tried to find a washer of the right thickness online, based on the tank number found in my tank (which happened to be [5]4049). That was not that easy, but eventually my handyman found a place called Grigg Industries, and I found a correct toilet to tank kit there, (47060-0700 to be precise, but that probably does not apply to your toilet as they have zillions). It did add about $17 to the price of the parts, so not cheap, but at least the tank no longer wobbles. So I got another one for my main bathroom. You might be able to find a cheaper washer elsewhere, but I would certainly not know where. Read more
